Chapter 388: They Really Didn’t Want To Lose
So things got worse pretty quickly.
Apparently that guy who managed to get through into the hangar was proving to be an absolute ass and simply wrecking the station in an attempt to sabotage it and blow the place up.
He’s not even trying to fight the other Mercs but trying to blow up the station instead.
The other thugs that I thought were just trying to hide from me were also trying to destroy the station from the outside.
I’m guessing they all decided to be martyrs and pull off some kind of self-sacrifice thing or they’re just doing this out of spite for losing the station to us.
Why the hell do these idiots have to screw things up even at the last moment? Couldn’t they just die quietly and let us loot them?
“I guess we should just kill them all at this point?” I asked, moving my ship around the station to actually start hunting for the thugs in power armour.
“Well… That is unless we don’t mind having all the Mercs there perishing with the station…” Amber pointed out helpfully.
Yeah… Let’s not betray their trust if we can help it… Besides, we still have use for them in the future, right?
Although I have to admit… This definitely hurt me for needing to destroy them instead of just looting the power armour off their corpses.
Whatever, we can always get more loot later.
I flew in between two struts of the mining station and noticed movement at the corner of my eye.
I immediately pulled back on the thrusters and slowed my ship down before turning it around, doing a quick scan of the area to see one of the thugs clinging to the underside of the station and trying to stay still.
He thinks I’m some kind of dinosaur or something that can’t see stuff just because they stay still?
I manually targeted him with my railgun before pulling the trigger, letting the projectile fly towards him faster than he could react.
The railgun round ended up cleaving him into two as it blasted through his abdominal area, the bottom half spinning away to the right while the top half slowly spun towards the left.
I noted the location for this one since we can still collect it and let Ries reference it for the one that she would be assembling for me.
I saw another flash of gunfire and turned to see Amber chasing down another thug in power armour and eviscerating him with her ballistic cannons.
Yep, taking notes of where that corpse of that guy flew to as well so that we can retrieve it later.
“How’s the guy in the station doing?” I asked through the comms, prompting a screen of Ries to appear in front of me.
Ries answered, “Not too good… It seems like he’s heading for the station’s reactor room. I think he’s going to try and blow up the station by overloading the generators…”
“What are the chances that we can stop him from reaching there?”
“With the gear that those Mercs have on hand? Pretty low… Especially since that bastard is trying his best t o avoid fights too.”
Damn it…
“Do we have time to evacuate everyone out of the station?”
“Umm… I’m not sure, Boss…”
“Fuck it, dock our ship and get all the Mercs to pull out of there. Tell them we’re going to be leaving in ten minutes and anyone who isn’t there by the time we leave will have to figure out something themselves. Get all the other ships to defend our ship from the remaining thugs in power armour.”
“You got it Boss!”
“Amber, you there?”
The screen then shifted to show Amber grinning at me, “What’s up, Tera?”

“Start collecting all the power armour that’s left floating around. If we find any other thugs as well, kill them but try to keep them intact.”
She raised an eyebrow at me, “We still want the broken pieces? There’s still dead bodies in them, you know?”
“Ries said that it would be easier for her to work on the disassembled power armour if she has something to reference from. So even if we get some destroyed ones back, it would still be a good thing.”
“Hmm… Alright, I’ll try not to blast the next thug I see into pieces~” She giggled.
Right…
She shut off the call and I continued my hunt for the remaining thugs that were still hiding around the station.
On the other side, I can see our ship moving back towards the docking hatch so I’m assuming Ries already sent the message out to them.
Sure enough, the other Merc ships had flown over to hover over our ship, keeping an eye out for any of those thugs trying to board our ship.
I headed towards one of the locations I noted down for where one of the dead thugs was located.
I found the dead thug easily enough, namely the one that got split into two by my railgun round.
The bottom half was still spinning in place while slowly floating closer to the station and the top half was also where I had last seen it and also slowly rotating in space.
Stopping my ship a short distance away, I did a scan of the area to make sure that there weren’t any other thugs hiding in the shadows that might be waiting to ambu– Oh look, there’s one right there.
He’s even trying to lay himself as flat as possible against the bottom of the station to make himself less noticeable.
Too bad for him I realised that there was an unnatural looking bump there which made me look twice which revealed him.
Alright… Let’s be a little more precise with this one…
I aimed my railgun to target the space right above his head, figuring that it was the best weapon to take him out quickly while dealing the least amount of damage to the armour itself.
Once I was sure that my aim was perfect, I pulled the trigger and let loose the high speed projectile.
The kinetic round shot true and blasted through his head, leaving the rest of his body intact.
But err… Small confession… I may have kind of forgotten about the station being behind him…
What I’m trying to say is that my railgun shot might have punched a hole through the bottom of the station as well and I have no idea whether I had just hit anything important.
I held my breath and waited, watching the hole in the wall of the station I had just punched through to see if anything would happen.
I was even expecting air to gush out from the hole and launch the thug I just killed out into space but either the room I just destroyed didn’t have air or there’s some kind of shielding in place that protects against this.
If you ask me, my money’s on the former.
Since nothing seemed to be happening, I let out a sigh of relief before putting my ship on stand by mode before moving to the exit hatch.
I quickly put on the spacewalk suit and started the depressurising process in order for me to step out into space.
As the door cycled open, I peered out into the area outside to do another scan of the area to make sure that the coast was clear.
Once I was satisfied that it was, I pushed myself out of the ship to fly towards the corpse that had been split into two, aiming to get that one first.
First thing I grabbed was the top half since it wasn’t spinning around so uncontrollably.
I then aimed it at my ship’s airlock and pushed it towards that direction.
I watched it float all the way towards the opening and did a fist punch when I saw it bounce into the hatch.
Score~
Now I went over to the one that was spinning like a spinning top and reached out my hand to apply friction to it and slow it down until it was at a more manageable speed.
Once it stopped, I did the same thing and pushed it towards my ship, aiming to score another ‘goal’.
Sure enough, the body bounced on the rim of my ship’s docking hatch and bounced into the room.
That made me wonder if there was some kind of sport revolving around this? I might even be good at it~
Alright, last one~
I went over to the headless power armour and grabbed a hold of it.
SinceI was going back to my ship anyway, there was no need to throw it. I would just bring it along with me by kicking off the station.
Bracing my feet against the station, I was just about to launch myself when I saw movement from the side.
Turning my head, I saw one of the thugs flying towards me with his hands outstretched, attempting to grab me.
So there was someone after all!
Thus, I did the most sensible thing I could do in that situation.
I kicked off the station and flew towards my ship, letting him sail past me and out into open space.
He floundered around trying to slow himself down but obviously that wasn’t going to work.
I’m also guessing he was out of bullets since he didn’t try to shoot me and thus there was no way for him to stop now.
Poor guy… Guess he’s going to just die out there after his air runs out…
Hey, maybe I can grab him for an intact suit of power–
He exploded.
Fuck… So he was trying to blow both of us up…
Seriously, can’t you guys just die in one piece?
