Chapter 389: Should Have Just Stayed Quiet
I tried to look for more thugs but they seemed to have all gone into hiding so I didn’t find any more of them.
I would have continued to looked for more but Ries had told me that everyone had already boarded the ship and they were pulling away from the station.
Since we’re not sure how big the explosion was going to be if that guy overloaded the generators and blew the entire station up.
I flew back to the ship and joined the patrol around the ship to make sure those thugs weren’t trying to sneak onto the ship.
Surprisingly, it seems like all of them were content with just hiding and letting us fly off with the loot we got from them.
Are they really just going to blow themselves up anyway? Or do they not even realise we got everyone else out of the station already?
Hmm… Maybe they know they are already dead because they lost the station so the gang they belong to will just kill them for the fuck up. Thus, it was better for them to just go out on their own terms?
I mean… I dunno, those are all just guesses from me.
Otherwise, why would they still be trying to blow up the station right? We’ve already evacuated from there…
Wait…
Don’t tell me that was the goal all along?
I hurriedly sent a request to dock on my ship and flew over to the hangar bay, the doors opening up right as I reached there.
Amber seemed to have noticed me docking back on our ship since she also flew in after me, her ship entering the hangar bay shortly after me.
I quickly powered down my ship and made sure it was securely docked before I stepped out of my cockpit.
The dead thugs in the power armour were still inside the docking hatch but I’ll let the cargo bots handle that and I ignored them for now.
As I descended the landing ramp and was quite surprised to see Amber already waiting there.
Girl, you docked your ship later than me and yet somehow you could disembark and get over here faster than I can leave my own ship? Just how fast were you running?!
“What happened?” Amber asked, clearly not bothered by how she managed to appear here before I did.
“I need to check something. To the cargo bay.”
She gave me an enthusiastic salute and followed me out of the hangar and through the corridors to reach the cargo bay where all the Mercs that had been on the station were now gathered.
Most of them seem fine though there were a few that were clearly not ok as there were injured and a few casualties laying on the floor.
A number of them saw me enter and gave me nods of greeting which I returned curtly.
I went towards where the group leaders were gathered, all of them seemingly discussing how the loot distribution will work.
They stopped the moment they saw me and all of them nodded in greeting.
“Miss Tera.”
“I need to know. When that guy was trying to reach the generator room, was he destroying everything he could to reach the generator room or was he just trying to avoid combat and weaving through rooms to get there?”
The Mercs stared at each other for a moment before turning back to me.
“I believe he was doing the latter…”
“Yeah… That’s kind of weird now that I think about it… He could have just smashed down the walls to get past our chokepoints just now but he chose to rush through and use his shield to protect himself…”
“Huh… Now that you mention it, that is indeed weird…”

Damn! So my guess was right!
Just as I thought of that, my Codex started beeping, signaling that I was getting a call from someone.
I stepped away from the Mercs to answer it, realising that it was Ries that was calling me.
The screen popped up to show a worried looking Ries frowning at me.
“Boss? Are you on the ship yet?”
“Yeah, I’m in the cargo hold. Why?”
“Err… We’ve got a call… You might want to come see this…”
I nodded and closed the window before making my way to the bridge with Amber following alongside me.
When I got to the bridge, I found Ries, Lea and Mara all present there with Ries seated in the pilot seat.
I took my place on the Captain’s chair and Ries gestured to the console where it indicated I had an incoming call.
Tapping on the console, a screen popped up to reveal a bald guy with a smug grin on his face.
“Hey there, fucker! Got you all running with your tail between your legs huh?”
I realised this must be the thug who went back into the station.
I furrowed my brows at him, “What do you want?”
“Just calling to gloat at you. You thought I was going to blow up this station huh? Well guess what? I was! Until you all ran away like a bunch of cowards!”
I tilted my head at him, “So… What? Are you asking us to board the station again so that you can blow it up or something?”
“Nah! Hahaha! I’m calling to laugh at your stupid decision because now I can do this!”
He reached for something off the screen and the station was suddenly shrouded by a translucent barrier.
“Hahaha! Now you can’t even board the station if you wanted to, bitch!”
“You’re still trapped inside the station though? There’s no more ships in the hangar for you to leave.”
“Hahaha! Too bad for you, those aren’t our only ships! Now that you so helpfully unlocked that security room for us, we can boost our long range comms and directly call for backup! You don’t even know the backer behind our gang, do you?! You’re dead, bitch! Dead!!”
I frowned at his words.
Is he talking about the Rattlers? I already know that they are a subsidiary of that gang but from what I know, they shouldn’t be big enough to deal with this right?
Unless I underestimated the scope of their operations?
Either way… I guess it would be in our best interest that news of this doesn’t reach them.
Or at least, news of who was responsible for this incident.
I tapped on my other console to bring up another window, contacting one of the Merc pilots.
The call was received and a muscular guy with a cybernetic eyepiece over his left eye appeared on the screen.
“Hey… You still have those Ion torpedoes right?” I asked.
He nodded, “Primed and ready.”
I brought up a window to show the blueprints of the station and pointed at where the reactor room was to him.
“Fire at this location, thanks.”
“You got it.”
The thug who I had purposefully left on call to hear that conversation widened his eyes.
“Wai… Wait… You can’t–”
I ignored him and broadcasted a message to the rest of the Merc pilots, “All ships, we’re punching a hole through the station’s shields. Once the shields are down, open fire on the station and destroy it. I want that place reduced to scrap. We cannot leave any evidence of us being here behind.”
The thug’s face paled even more and I didn’t let him say anything more as I shut off all comms after that.
One of the Merc ships pulled away from our group and flew straight towards the location I had pointed out on the map.
The rest of us spread ourselves out in a firing line as we waited for him to deliver the payload.
I specifically manoeuvred the ship so that our broadside was facing the station for maximum firepower.
The ship got close to the station before it swerved away, shooting out a small cylindrical object that rocketed towards the station.
I watched as the cylindrical object struck the shield and pierced through it like it was made of glass before hitting the side of the station where the reactor was.
The resulting explosion took out a big chunk of the station and the shield flickered for a moment before completely disappearing.
“Fire at will!” I commanded.
Lea activated our ship’s guns and a rain of kinetic and energy projectiles were shot towards the station.
Explosions blasted it apart as the kinetic and energy rounds ripped through the construct, breaking the entire station piece by piece.
There was only one word to describe it and it was glorious.
There might have been more loot there that we inadvertently destroyed but hey, was it worth it? The answer could only be yes.
Besides… Now that the entire place was destroyed, we can freely loot the remaining stuff that would be floating in space.
Maybe we might even find some of the remaining thugs in those power armour and claim them for ourselves as well~
I would call this a mission success~
