Chapter 390: We Need To Crack The Shell Open To Get The Meat Out
There’s so much loot.
Ok, I’m exaggerating a bit but there is still quite a bit of loot. And since these are military grade weapons, the price for these should be quite high.
“So how much are we looking at?” I asked, looking at the list that Ries gave me while we were on the way back to Denibi station.
Ries scratched her head, “Umm… I think this would at least be worth about five to ten million Credits?”
Mara interjected, “There’s people who might pay double or even triple the price for them. If we are willing to take the risk, that is.”
I turned to her immediately, “What kind of risk?”
She placed a finger on the side of her cheek, “I may or may not have ‘overheard’ some conversations where the military is still looking to reclaim the equipment they lost so they might be willing to pay a premium for it. Although I know that they are still keeping the fact they lost these equipment under wraps so the other side of the possibility is that they might not even pay but just demand it to be returned instead.”
I was more surprised by one thing, “Wait… They’re hiding the fact that they lost all this stuff? We didn’t even get all of it, the other Mercs looted the place too! This has got to be like… At least close to a few hundred million Credits worth of stuff right?”
“Which is an insignificant amount of money for the military.”
Ah right… I forgot who we were dealing with.
“But is it alright that we only have part of it?” I asked.
Mara smiled at me, “It is easier to explain the loss of fewer equipment than it is to explain the loss of an entire storeroom’s worth of it.”
True…
I turned to the other girls, “What do you girls think?”
Amber grimaced, “I would like to avoid dealing with the military as much as possible but if they offer a better price, I say we take it. There’s no reason not to take advantage of them after all.”
Ries and Lea nodded in agreement.
“Ok… Assuming we go with that option, do we have a way to contact the people in the military who might be looking for this?” I asked, looking at Mara.
“I can get in touch with some people,” She answered instantly.
Great, I guess that deals with that problem.
Now for the other thing…
“How about the power armour? Are the ones we brought back good enough?”
Ries scratched her cheek, “Well… We still need to get the corpses out of them first I guess? I will need to trouble Boss to help me hack into the suits to open them up first though, otherwise it wouldn’t open.”
“Right, I guess I should just do that now?”
“Umm… That would help speed things up if you don’t mind, Boss.”
I left the bridge for the other girls to take over and I followed Ries to the cargo bay where we had left the power armour we ‘retrieved’.
Right now, the cargo bay was mostly empty of Mercs as compared to before since the other Mercs had returned to their own group’s ship and only a few solo Mercs were left to stay with us.
Aside from them, there were also a few Mercs that had been hurt during the fight and were staying here for the moment to receive treatment from Mara.
Obviously, we were going to charge them money for the treatment but it seems like they didn’t even mind paying it because none of the groups had a doctor anyway so it was a blessing to them that we had one.
Ries and I then went over to the corner where several pieces of the power armour we scavenged were laid out. There were three from me and two from Amber.
Unfortunately, two of mine and one of Amber’s look like they were completely wrecked to the point that I don’t even know if they could be used at all. And yes, I am also including the one that got cut in half in that number.

Heck, I don’t even know how we would even try to get the corpse out of these ones especially… Would they even open up by itself? Or do we have to scrape the body out of it with something?
Because if it’s the latter… I would much rather just toss it out the airlock to be honest…
In contrast to me, Ries didn’t seem at all bothered and settled down beside the line of power armour and gestured towards it.
“Whenever you’re ready, Boss!”
“Are you sure this is going to work though? They look pretty screwed up…”
“It’ll be fine, Boss! If they don’t work then I’ll disassemble them instead. Let’s just see if we can get them to open up automatically first!”
I guess it doesn’t hurt to try…
I connected my Codex to the first power armour on the far right, which happened to be the guy who chose to turn his shields off and got blasted by my ballistic cannons and got shredded into pieces.
There were three holes on the back of the power armour, each one bigger than the size of my fist.
Naturally, the holes extended from the back all the way to the front, the kinetic projectile having blasted through metal and flesh without a problem.
One of the holes was near the armpit area and I could see from the hole that his arm was only connected to the body by a rather thin piece of flesh. If it wasn’t for the power armour still holding together, I think the arm would have just snapped off.
I guess this is what happens when someone gets blasted by a ship based weapon…
Nevertheless, I went ahead to activate my Codex to start hacking into its systems.
I wasn’t even expecting it to work so I was quite surprised when I saw that I could connect to it and started the little mini game to complete the hack.
Soon enough, I was in control of it and I tried to tap on the control that would open up the power armour.
There was a loud metallic grinding sound as part of the back of the power armour lifted up to expose its insides.
And almost immediately, I was hit by the scent of blood from the corpse.
The smell was already there from the start but somehow it got even worse when I opened it.
I would also say that it’s quite surprising that this thing was still functioning despite the damage it had gone through.
I guess whoever designed it really did a great job of making sure it still worked despite such bad conditions.
As the back portion opened up, I could now see that the corpse inside the power armour was really just barely holding together.
As I had seen, the arm was literally just connected by a thin strip of flesh but one of the ballistic projectiles had gone through this guy’s back and blasted a hole through his spine.
So now the waist was only connected by similarly thin strips of flesh between the upper and lower body.
Ugh… We really have to take this guy out of the suit?
Fuck it, let’s just get this over with…
I reached inside and tried to pull him out by his shoulders, which caused a soft ripping sound as the arm and legs got stuck and I ended up only ripping out the top half of the body with only one arm connected to it.
Then as if that wasn’t enough, it seems like some pieces of shrapnel had also cut into his neck and the head slowly slid off to drop back inside the power armour as soon as I lifted it up.
Ughhh…. This is so disgusting…
I looted dead bodies before but this is on another level… Like at least I didn’t actually need to move the corpse where parts of it were falling off…
I looked over to Ries to see how she was handling it, expecting her to be at least as disgusted as I was or something.
But she didn’t even blink at the sight and simply reached into the suit to pick up both the decapitated head and arm before turning to me.
“We can put the bodies here, Boss,” She told me cheerily, not bothered that she was holding severed limbs in her hands.
She then went ahead to place them down near the door leading to the airlock before returning to pull the legs out from the suit as well.
I hurriedly dumped the torso near where she had placed the head and the arm before asking, “You seem to have done this before…”
Ries nodded, “Yep! There were times I had to scavenge through rubbish dumps for spare parts and some places also dump power armour there as well where the dead pilot was still inside the suit. So if it happens that I need a power generator that is present in the suit, I would just go and scrape out the dead body inside just to get to it~”
“That sounds… Depressing…”
“Oh, you get used to it~” Ries told me cheerily, tossing the bottom half of the corpse she dug out in the pile, not even caring that her hands were now soaked with blood.
Ok… I don’t know why, but she looks kind of hot like that, not gonna lie…
Anyway, one down, four more to go…
