Chapter 406: To The Security Room
You know… I was kind of hoping that we would have a smooth time heading towards the security room at the very least…
Unfortunately, it seems like every turn we took brought us to another fight between the turrets and drones on one side and the Psionic Chrysalis on the other.
What made it more problematic was the fact that we couldn’t hear those fights and only knew they were happening when we chanced upon them so we had to slow down our progress lest we run into another fight unprepared.
We had to check every corner before we turned and because of that, we were still trying to get to the security room after an hour of moving through the corridors.
There were several battles we managed to avoid this way since we would see a bunch of the drones shooting at the Chrysalis and either find an alternate route or wait until the fight was over and sneak past the survivors.
Incidentally, it seems like the Chrysalis always had some new form that they were using to fight against the security system.
Not all of their forms were actually good as there were some forms that seemed to fumble around and got eviscerated by bullets instead.
One such example was something that looked like it attempted to make itself as thin as possible like a stick with a single crystal at the very tip. My guess was that it thought being thin would allow it to avoid the bullets but then the drones simply shot at the crystal and destroyed it.
At this point, I’m pretty sure that there was someone controlling these creatures and these new forms were just their way of experimenting on trying to find the most effective form to deal with the new threats.
I voiced that concern to the other girls and while they didn’t exactly confirm the idea, they didn’t offer another explanation for this phenomenon either.
So right now we’re just operating on the assumption that there was indeed someone controlling the Psionic Chrysalis.
We came to another intersection and I peeked around the corner to check if there were any enemies waiting there.
Turns out that there was another fight there between a group of drones and the Psionic Chrysalis.
This group of those creatures was being led by another Psionic Chrysalis that seemed to look like some kind of human that was buffed up with gigantic upper body muscles.
That thing was literally tanking the bullets fired at it and grabbing the drones out of the air with the hands made of black matter and crushing them.
The drones tried to fly away from the creature to stay out of its reach but apparently the creature’s arms could stretch and the distance was of no issue to it.
It simply stretched its arm and grabbed another drone to throw it against the wall, smashing the machine apart.
I’m pretty sure the drones weren’t winning this battle and the security room was right ahead of us so we really need to get through this area. Look, I can even see the door that should lead to the security room right ahead.
Just as I was wondering if I needed to intervene and attack the ‘buff’ Chrysalis, a turret suddenly popped out from above the door and fired a single high intensity laser that pierced through the shoulder of that creature.
The Psionic Chrysalis seemed to pause as the ‘arm’ ended up getting cut off and it disintegrated into nothingness.
It tried to form a new arm with its remaining black matter but the turret fired again, this time cutting off the other arm.
Several of the other smaller Psionic Chrysalis tried to rush towards the turret that was clearly wrecking the bigger Chrysalis but the drones immediately moved to intercept them.
The hail of bullets from the drones made short work of the smaller Chrysalis and bought the turret enough time to fire another round, this time piercing through a good number of the smaller Chrysalis and also through the crystal of the larger one that had been embedded in the middle of its chest.
When the crystal shattered, the rest of the black matter surrounding it also dissipated, leaving nothing behind.
The other Chrysalis were then wiped out by the remaining drones without any issues which left us with just the drones and the turret blocking us from reaching the security room.
No biggie… At this distance, I can do something like this…
I tapped on my Codex and remotely connected to the turret and easily hacked into it to make it recognise us as friendlies.
I then moved on to the drones and hacked the remaining five drones individually until they were no longer hostile to us.
“All clear,” I told them, drifting out of the corner and into the open.
The drones all turned to point their guns at me and I felt someone pull my hand to bring me back behind the corner.

Turning my head, I realised that it was Amber who had pulled me back, clearly thinking that the drones were going to fire at me.
I gave her a wave, “It’s fine, relax, Amber. I already hacked them. See?”
I went out again and the drones seemed to stare at me for a moment before floating away, having already confirmed that I was not a hostile target.
Amber pouted at me, “Next time… At least warn us before doing something like that, ok? My heart was about to stop when I saw them point those guns at you, Tera…”
I raised an eyebrow at her, “Come on now… This wouldn’t even be the first time I would be shot at. And besides… I still have my shield, don’t I? That would at least protect me and give me enough time to get into cover.”
“I would prefer that such cases be kept to a minimum if I can help it, Tera.”
“Fair enough, but as I said, it’s safe now. Now let’s go before more of those Psionic thingies show up.”
I pushed against the wall and propelled myself towards the security door.
The turret above it pointed its gun barrel at me for a moment but quickly lost interest and disappeared back into the ceiling, leaving the door exposed for me to hack into.
With a few quick taps on my Codex, the door slid open and I peeked inside the room while shining the light from my helmet inside.
Truth be told, I was expecting only a small room with maybe a few consoles that showed the view around the station or something so I wasn’t prepared to see a large hall with rows upon rows of consoles and what looked like gun and equipment lockers lined up along the side of the walls.
While a few of them seemed to have been emptied, there were a few of them with their doors still closed so perhaps there were still guns or equipment left inside them.
If there were, then this trip was already worth it since that means even more military grade equipment that we could use or sell for profit.
Hmm? There seems to also be another door at the end that looks quite heavily armoured so maybe there’s even more stuff there.
Anyway… First things first, let me just connect myself to a security console and… There~ All done.
Now all of us should be recognised as friendly targets by the station’s defences so we don’t need to worry about the drones and turrets anymore.
“Umm… Boss… You might want to see this…” Ries called out from one of the consoles.
I immediately pushed myself away from the console I was at to float towards her, catching the edge of the console to stop me from drifting away.
Ries then pointed at one of the screens and I narrowed my eyes at it to see some kind of machine that had a glass container in the centre housing a crystal inside it.
It looked like the very same crystal that was found embedded in those Psionic Chrysalis.
Then, in a bigger glass container beside it, there seemed to be a young boy that was no older than ten floating in some kind of greenish liquid.
I didn’t even get to react to that sight when a black portal appeared in between the crystal and the boy which caused several Psionic Chrysalis to pop out from said portal.
The newly appeared Chrysalis flew around the room for a moment before they left through a door that had been destroyed from the inside.
“Where is this?” I asked.
Ries paused for a moment to look through the other monitors before answering, “It’s one of the Research Labs but it does not say which one…”
“Then we’ll have to go find it and shut it down… Wait, how does it still have power to function?”
“That’s the thing Boss… There is no power in that room that is powering the machines… It’s just working by themselves somehow…”
What the hell is this station researching?!
