Chapter 407: They Are Making Artificial Ones
What kind of stuff is this station doing?!
Were they really researching on children and those crystal things?!
I then realised that Amber was staring at the screen of the research lab with a really scary look on her face.
“Amber?” I called out, touching her on her arm.
She flinched from the touch but quickly leaned towards me when she realised that it was me that was touching her.
Kind of odd since we were still wearing our space suits so she shouldn’t have felt any really big touch.
She nodded at me, “I’m ok… Just… One thing first… Before we go to the Research Labs… Could we go to the Archives?”
I raised an eyebrow at her, “The Archives? Don’t tell me it’s one of those things that stuff your head with the information you want? You know that doesn’t work on me, right?”
“”It doesn’t?”” Both Ries and Lea reacted at the same time.
I turned to them, “Have I not told you girls about that before?”
The two of them looked at each other before turning back to shake their heads.
Huh… I could have sworn I did… Whatever, it’s not that important anyway so I just confirmed that the Archives was literally ineffective on me.
The two of them turned to Amber as though to ask silently if she knew and she simply shrugged in a way that said that she knew but forgot about it.
It was something that happened quite some time ago anyway so it doesn’t really matter.
Amber then turned back to me, “To answer your question, it should not be that kind of Archive. It should be a place where the records of the research are kept. All of them should be encrypted and locked with the highest level of security.”
My lover then gave me a pointed look.
Ah, I guess under normal circumstances, anyone who came here would have a hard time trying to decipher and access the files. But since I have this cheat thing called the Codex, there’s no such problem.
Alright then, since I’m also curious what they have recorded here, let’s just take Amber’s suggestion and pay the Archives a visit first to see just what exactly they have.
“Let’s go there first then. Do you know the way?”
Ries went to one of the security consoles and tapped on the screen for a moment before a three dimensional map of the station appeared above the console.
She then continued to tap on the console for a moment more before the map zoomed in to show our current position and a close up look on the rooms near us.
The Archives was shown quite clearly on the map and from the map, we could see the most optimal path we needed to take to reach that room.
Taking a picture of it with my codex, I used that to navigate through the dark corridors of the station after we left the Security Room, all of us less concerned about running into enemies than before.
That’s obviously because now we only need to worry about running into those Psionic Chrysalis because the security of this station was now on our side.
We had a few run-ins with the Psionic Chrysalis but all of them were being engaged by the security forces so we just went past them while they were busy with each other.
Even if either side noticed us, one side would always try to protect us when the other side wanted to attack us and even if they managed to get past the turrets and drones, we could deal with the remaining Psionic Chrysalis ourselves too.
Eventually, we managed to reach the Archive within half the time it took for us to reach the Security Room, more because of the fact that we had to navigate through the corridors in zero G that slowed us down a little.
The door was locked but that was not an issue in front of my Codex and I quickly gained access to it and hacked it open for us.
Entering the room, I found that there were rows upon rows of what looked like bookshelves but instead of storing books, they had something that looked like white cartridges slotted into them.
Then in the very centre of the room was a single console and screen that had a slot that was the perfect size for the white cartridges to be inserted into.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
I’m guessing they record down their research and stuff into these cartridges which are then stored on the shelves? Then they can retrieve it and replay them by inserting it into the console?
But looking at the shelves, the white cartridges are stored in such a way that it looks impossible for one to pull them out… So how would one access them?
“Over here, Tera…” Amber beckoned, floating towards the console almost like she already knew what it was.
I followed her and she manipulated the console to start it up where the screen showed a prompt for the user to input the access code.
Well, here’s my access code where I just hack into your controls and bypass this with my Codex~
The screen changed and now I was looking at a single white page with a search bar and nothing else.
Err… What do we do now? Just go and grab a cartridge and slot it in?
Before I could ask, Amber moved forward and started tapping on the console to bring up a holographic keyboard which she used to type in the word ‘P-105-N1C’ into the search bar.
The screen then changed into a whole bunch of results where it seems like they were research logs or something by the names they were archived under.
Amber simply scrolled all the way to the bottom to tap on the oldest entry.
There was a pause before the slot that I thought we were supposed to insert a cartridge into opened up to slide out one of the white cartridges instead.
Ah… So we weren’t supposed to be the ones to retrieve it… The machine here does it for us already.
That’s cool.
The screen changed once again and this time it showed a rather elderly man wearing a white lab coat looking at the screen.
Oh, it’s a video log or a recording of one I guess.
“Log zero zero one. This is the first log of Head Researcher Guram of this station on other ways we can make use of the artificial enhancement drug, P-105-N1C, otherwise known as the Artificial Psionic Awakener.”
I blinked before turning to Amber.
She shook her head and pointed at the screen, indicating that I should continue to listen.
The guy continued, “Since the first few success cases mostly turned out to be uncontrollable, this station will be looking into utilising other factors in the process aimed to better control our subjects. For this case, we are hoping that making use of other materials that possess Psionic potential might provide us with a catalyst that we can use to better control and influence our subjects. As of this recording, we are mostly set up and ready to go and are just lacking for the subjects to be delivered.”
Amber stopped the video and turned to me, lifting a single eyebrow as though to ask if I understood any of that.
“The military… Are trying to create artificial Psionics?”
She grimaced, “Go higher…”
“The government?”
She nodded, “Do you think the UTG are happy to have to keep appeasing the so-called Nobles in their territory? They have been researching on how to make their own loyal soldiers obtain Psionic potential for a very long time. But it seems like all of their attempts at making one failed until recently when they had a breakthrough…”
She leaned forward and typed into the search bar again.
‘Four Family Psionic War’
I expected another bunch of stuff to pop up but this time, the results came in empty.
Amber frowned, “I’m surprised no one here talked about it… Then again, I suppose it is somewhat of a history that no one wants to remember… Myself included.”
“What is it?” I asked.
“To put it very simply… The UTG managed to plan and execute a kidnapping of several children from the Psionic families. They managed to pull it off somehow and leave not even a trace of their involvement. All four of those families blamed each other for what had happened which resulted in an infighting amongst the Nobles while the UTG went ahead to experiment on the captured Psionics to finally make that drug.”
I stared at her, “So the UTG are able to make artificial Psionics?”
She hesitated, “The… Process… Isn’t perfect yet, I suppose… And they are being extremely secretive about it. Even the food and supplies being transported to and from the places involved are checked extremely thoroughly to make sure no one else knows about this…”
Wow… Ok, now how did she know about all this?
