Chapter 409: There’s Something In There
Ok… So we know which research labs they are being held at… That means all we need to do is to get to them and unplug them from the machines.
That was easier said than done because the fact that the Psionic Chrysalis were using them to create portals to appear here, that was where the most number of those monsters would be.
If we wanted to get to them, we would need to fight through all of those Psionic Chrysalis just to get through.
The good news is that we don’t have to face them alone.
Since I had already hacked into the security systems, it means I now have full control over it and I could direct the security in the station however I wish.
We just need to get back to the security room and use the security console to direct all the drones there to act as our vanguard.
While we were on the way back, Amber let out a deep sigh behind me, “This sucks…”
I chuckled, “Well yeah, we’re learning that these people are experimenting on children to create supersoldiers that they could use to put pressure on the Nobles.”
“Oh yeah, that sucks too. But that wasn’t what I was thinking about when I said that.”
I turned around to face her while letting my momentum continue to carry me in the direction of the security room.
“If that’s not what you are thinking about… Then what sucks?”
“Well… The fact that you are so close to me and yet I can’t touch you nor smell or taste you. This place sucks.”
Why did I even bother asking…
“I agree as well, Mistress. May I also request that we get the newer and more flexible spacesuits instead of these bulky ones for future encounters, Mistress? I believe that would make things more bearable,” Lea chimed in.
Err… I mean… I don’t mind getting the better space suits since I do admit that these were indeed bulky and rather unwieldy… But I’m surprised Lea was the one who asked for it…
Oh wait, I guess it’s especially difficult for her to snipe at her targets with these bulky suits so she would rather have those tight fitting ones in order to minimise the number of things that might affect her aim I guess.
In that case, I guess I should make that a priority then.
I nodded at her, “If it is within our budget, we’ll get them.”
Lea seemed to be surprised that I agreed so easily and lowered her head, “Thank you for accepting this selfish request of mine.”
Selfish? I don’t think increasing her combat capabilities could be counted as selfish but I guess she thinks that any personal request she makes would be counted as ‘selfish’.
I decided not to correct her on that and just move on.
We reached the security room without running into any enemies since we had already helped clear this route before when we were going to the archives.
When we entered the room, I was reminded of the armoured door inside the security room that I had first seen and forgot about after we found the boy summoning the Chrysalis.
I pointed at the console, “Ries, could you do the honours of calling all the drones here? I want to check out the room at the back that we missed the first time we came here.”
She gave me a cute salute, “I’m on it, Boss!”
Lea and Mara went to keep watch in case any Psionic Chrysalis came along while Amber decided to accompany me to the door.
“What do you think it’s behind it?” I asked as we floated towards the console panel beside the door.
Amber shrugged, “I dunno… More weapons maybe? Maybe there’s some high tech power armour?”
Well… Ries is already working on assembling one so it would feel rather anticlimactic if we were to find an intact one over here.
Actually, even if we were to find one, Ries would have to disassemble it and remake it anyway since some people might recognise it as a military asset and that would get us into trouble.

Oh well… At least Ries would have more spare parts to work with if we were to find one either way.
I tapped on the console panel beside the wall and it asked me for a password in order to open it.
I went ahead to give it the big old Codex treatment where I bypassed the door’s security and unlocked it.
The door visibly shook before it started to slide open, prompting Amber and I to peek inside through the gap that was getting wider and wider.
Unfortunately, there was no light inside that room so we were limited to what we could see using the light from our helmets so we had to wait until the door fully opened to see what was–
Something suddenly grabbed onto the door from within the darkness making both Amber and I jump in surprise from the sudden appearance of the limb.
What the fuck?!
Something thrust itself out from in between the door and I realised it was some kind of snout and whatever it belonged to had razor sharp teeth.
Heck, even the hand that grabbed onto the door had long claws that left marks on the door that it was currently holding.
I, of course, reacted the only way I knew when I was faced with such surprises.
And by that I meant I fired a shotgun blast into that thing’s face.
That thing seemed to let out a howl of pain since I doubt it was moaning in pleasure from getting shot in the face before it retreated back into the darkness.
“Close it, Tera!” Amber shouted through our comms.
No need to tell me twice!
I immediately tapped on my Codex and selected the button to have the door close up again.
I watched as the door grinded to a halt before it started moving the other way in order to close itself but it was moving way too slowly for my liking.
As I had feared, before the door could even close, the creature’s hand appeared to grab onto the door to stop it from closing.
I leveled my shotgun at the hand and fired again, forcing the hand to flinch back from the pain and allowed the door to move a few more inches closer to closing up.
Just as I thought we might have a chance of locking up whatever that was inside again, two hands came out and grabbed onto the edges of the door and pulled them open, allowing the snout from before to push through the gap and force the door to remain open.
I fired another shot at the snout and Amber joined me in shooting at the creature but while it did flinch back from getting shot, it did not completely retreat back past the door like before.
It’s as though it was determined to get through no matter what.
“Girls!” I called out through the comms, warning the others and calling them for help.
They turned in our direction to see the monster trying to claw its way out of the room and immediately flew over to join us.
At this point, I was pumping round after round of shotgun slugs into the monster while Amber emptied her pistol clips into the monster’s snout. Unfortunately, even with the both of us firing at it, the best that we could do was to slow it down as it steadily pushed the doors open.
“What the hell is this thing?!” I yelled while continuing to fire at it.
“Who cares?! Just shoot at it now!” Amber cried back, reloading a new magazine to start dumping lead into the creature again.
I tried to look into the gap to see if there was something that looked more vulnerable that I could aim at, which inevitably shone my helmet’s light directly on the creature’s face that was behind the doors.
It looked like some kind of rabid dog that was trying to nip and bite at everything it sees and if it does not get it, they start going mad or something.
But the thing that stood out the most was the fact that it had a rather lustrous head of hair that cascaded down past its face and hid the rest of its face from view.
Despite that, I didn’t worry too much and just started firing at that thing’s face.
While I did leave some marks of the creature with my shotgun, it still continued its advance towards the doors and it now had its face halfway out of the door.
As I was thinking that we could not stop it, I heard Mara’s voice coming from the comms.
“Both of you get away, right now!”
I didn’t even question her and simply leapt to the side.
Right then, something that looked like one of the security consoles that someone tore up from the ground was flying towards the creature.
Console managed to force the monster to let go of the doors and retreat back inside, which gave Mara enough time to come forward and slam the doors shut with a wave of her hands.
Ok now… What the fuck was that?!
