Chapter 411: Shutting The Capsule Down
We got to the Research Lab area pretty quickly.
That’s not to say that we didn’t meet any resistance but more because we had the firepower of so many drones with us that most of the enemies that showed up quickly got shot down the moment they appeared.
The good thing is that they’ve only been throwing the normal Psionic Chrysalis at us so far and there haven’t been any variants. Thus, it wasn’t too hard for us to deal with and we got through them just by relying on the stones.
Just as I was thinking that we might be able to get there without any problem, we turned the corner and found one of the variants blocking the corridor.
This one was the really buff human form version except it had four arms with two ending in a mass of tentacles while the other two ending up with hands.
The crystal was embedded in the centre of its chest like a heart, acting as its only weak spot.
The legs also seemed to have been enlarged so it was no longer top heavy like the previous one I saw.
I wondered why it wasn’t floating around in the zero G like we were until I realised there were small spikes in its foot that it was using to anchor itself on the ground.
The drones immediately opened fire on the new threat but the Chrysalis crossed its arms in front of it to block the bullets.
Huh… It managed to harden its hands so that the bullets were bouncing off its arms instead of going through it… Is this something new as well?
“Lea?” I called out.
“I see it, Mistress,” Lea assured me, her rifle already aimed at the creature.
She then fired her coilgun and the projectile pierced through the hands and struck the crystal in its chest, shattering it.
The Psionic Chrysalis held that pose for a moment more before it dissipated, leaving the shattered remains of its crystal behind.
Nice, I’ll just take that too and we’ll move on.
With that guy gone, we now have a straight path to the Research Labs.
At least that was what I thought before four more of those large guys showed up from around the corner.
Two of them were stuck to the ground while the other two had stuck themselves on the ceiling, effectively sealing off the corridor.
Seems like they really don’t want us to pass through here.
Lea didn’t even hesitate as she fired the first shot before they could get into position, the projectile from her coilgun blasting through the crystal on one of the Psionic Chrysalis hanging on the ceiling before it could react.
The creature shuddered for a moment before the dark matter around it dissipated, leaving the shattered remains of its crystal.
The others didn’t even notice that one of their numbers had fallen and continued strolling forward until Lea fired a second shot, destroying the second one that was walking on the ceiling.
As for the other two…
Well… They weren’t even in place to defend themselves so Amber simply dashed forward and fired her pistol twice, both of her shots landing on the crystal of both Psionic Chrysalis accurately and shattering them.
“Let’s move before more show up,” I suggested, already pushing myself forward and moving past the remains of the Psionic Chrysalis.
Looking down at my Codex, I could see that we had just under forty five minutes left so I would say that we were at least making good progress.
The first Research Lab was just up ahead and I could already see the doorway that was destroyed by something that had flung the door out into the corridor from within the room.
Guess I didn’t even need to search the Archives for which Research Lab those kids were being held in since I would expect all the doors of those Research Labs to also be destroyed like this as well.
I kept my shotgun pointed at the doorway in case there were any Chrysalis laying in wait there but it seems like there was no trap laid for us and we entered the lab without facing any resistance.
Peeking inside, I realised it was the same room that we had first seen from the security room.

The boy was suspended in the same capsule filled with that liquid while adjacent to it was the crystal floating in a similar looking capsule.
I took a moment more to check that the room was clear and yes, I did check the ceiling too, just in case there were any hiding up there.
Seeing that there weren’t any signs of those Psionic Chrysalis, I entered the room with the girls and a number of the drones following behind me.
I did another sweep of the room again to double check the coast was clear as I approached the capsule before stopping in front of it.
The boy inside did not seem to notice my presence and remained floating inside the capsule with his eyes closed.
“Right… Any ideas on how to free him?” I asked.
Amber pointed to the side, “What about over there?”
I turned to see that she was pointing at a console at the side of the boy’s capsule.
How did I even miss that?
I floated over to the console and a quick inspection of it revealed that it was there to control the capsules itself.
Let’s see… It doesn’t look like I need to hack the console to be able to use it but I wasn’t able to make sense of all the knobs and dials on the console.
“How the heck does one even deactivate this?” I muttered aloud.
The girls came over to look over my shoulder, joining me in trying to inspect the console.
“Umm… I think I might be able to deactivate it, Boss,” Ries offered.
Ooh~ Expected from our resident engineer~
I gestured at the console to indicate that she should go ahead and she took my spot to start manipulating the console.
I wasn’t really sure what to expect but Ries quickly shifted several levers which caused a low rumble to come from the capsule that the boy was in.
Bubbles then appeared from the bottom of the capsule and the liquid inside it started to drain out from the capsule into the holes at the bottom, the liquid seemingly being sucked into them which allowed the liquid to flow through despite there being zero gravity.
And thanks to the fact that there was zero gravity, the boy did not just drop onto the floor but rather continued to float in the air inside the capsule.
“Umm… This might be a little too late to ask but… Are they able to survive outside the capsule?”
I mean… The life support systems are offline, after all…
Mara waved at me, “It’s alright, Captain. Judging by their records, these people must have already awakened their Psionic potential so they should be able to survive in space even without a suit.”
Well… That’s good to hear then. Though I have to say it’s a little worrying too…
I mean having several kids with Psionic powers on my ship… Hopefully they don’t break anything…
He was still connected by tubes that seemed to be stuck in various places around his body but at least it did not look like he was being injected with anything at the moment since those tubes looked empty.
When the liquid was finally sucked out, Ries pressed another button on the console which made a part of the capsule open up, allowing us to reach the boy in question.
The tubes that were connected to him also separated from the boy, prompting me to move over to him to pull him out of the capsule.
As I grabbed onto the boy’s wrist to pull him out, a hand suddenly grabbed onto my shoulder and pulled me back.
I panicked slightly, thinking it was a Psionic Chrysalis that I might have missed inside the room but I realised it was just Amber pulling me back.
I was just about to ask her what was wrong when I noticed that she was staring at the boy in front of me with wide eyes.
Turning back to see what she was looking at, I realised that the body seemed to be convulsing while floating in space.
What… Don’t tell me they couldn’t actually survive in space and we had assumed incorrectly?!
Just as I was in the midst of wondering if I had accidentally killed the boy, he suddenly spat out blood that splattered against the wall of the capsule before he suddenly stopped moving.
Then, without warning, the boy’s arms twisted themselves and his head suddenly split open down the middle, allowing that black matter that was present around those Chrysalis to gush out to start wrapping around him.
I watched in horrified fascination as the rest of his body also twisted itself before his body split open to allow some kind of black matter to escape from within his body.
Then, bone and sinew seemed to merge with the black matter before the boy transformed into a rather familiar shape.
And by that, I meant that the boy had transformed into the creature that I saw trying to break out of the security room earlier…
Wait.. No way… Why did this happen?!
