Chapter 413: They Are Friendly Now?
The monster was not done with eating the transformed boy as it went ahead to munch on the pieces that had been separated from the initial bite.

That gave me enough time to gesture at the other girls that we should get out of here right now. Hopefully, this thing would be occupied with eating that and we can try to rescue the other kids while it was distracted.

Thankfully, it seemed like it was more interested in the remains of that other monster it was eating instead of us so we managed to get out of the room without it trying to stop us.

Ries seemed to have also kept the drones on standby mode so they weren’t firing at the monster either.

The door shut as we left the research lab but I wasn’t counting on that door to hold since this was not an armoured one and the monster managed to get past an armoured one.

“We have to get the other kids… Now…” I instructed.

Mara turned to me, “Are you sure, Captain? They were all suffering from the same problem so I believe they would also transform into the same monster as this one did.”

I grimaced, “We should at least still try…”

The girls looked at each other and I thought they might try to dissuade me but surprisingly, they turned back to me to nod.

“If that is what Mistress wishes to do, we shall try.”

“Mmm~ Tera is really kind after all so it can’t be helped.”

“I agree! We should at least try to rescue them like Boss said!”

“I suppose it is worth a shot, Captain.”

Alright then, thanks for going along with my selfishness.

I know that there is a really high chance that what Mara said earlier might be true so I am prepared to kill them should they transform when they are pulled out from the capsule.

But on the off chance that one of them manages to survive, then I would at least like to try and save that single one.

Am I putting all of us in danger? Yes. But is it worth it? I certainly hope so…

Without wasting time, we started heading towards the next Research lab where the next kid was being held.

Surprisingly, there weren’t any Psionic Chrysalis this time and we managed to reach the lab without meeting any resistance.

I made Ries command the drones to stay behind us to keep watch in case that monster reappeared again but so far, we’ve not seen it after we saw it devour that transformed boy.

Unlocking the door to the research lab, I peeked inside again, making sure that there weren’t any other of those Psionic Chrysalis in here.

There, standing right in front of the capsule like a guard, were several of those large sized Chrysalis with four arms.

I raised my shotgun in preparation to fire but they don’t seem to be hostile.

The reason why I thought that was because they had stepped aside and created a path to the capsule when they saw me.

Err… What? Are they actually inviting me to the capsule?

“How curious… First they wanted to kill us, yet now they are helping us?” Mara mused.

Amber looked at the Chrysalis that were standing in a row on both sides, “Maybe… They learned that you could free them from the capsule and they want you to help them do that? And once you free them, they will turn on us and attack us?”

Well… I really hope that wasn’t the case but you can’t be too sure…

But right now… I suppose I should first try to free the kid in the capsule, which just so happened to be another boy as well.

I went up to the console and the Psionic chrysalis gave me more space to reach it, none of them even trying to stop me.

The girls kept their weapons trained on them but they didn’t seem bothered by it, all of them simply standing where they were as though they were statues.

Ries went ahead to operate the console until the liquid in the capsule was sucked away and the front of the capsule hissed open.

The boy floated out partly from the capsule before his body started to convulse as well, his limbs distorting in unnatural poses and his head splitting open just like the other boy’s.

Black matter poured out from the hole and wrapped around him, transforming him into the same monster as the boy had.

I watched the creature carefully as it emerged, my shotgun pointed at it with my slug round already loaded in the tube.

The monster slowly turned to regard me with an eye before its gaze drifted down to the weapon in my hand.

It seemed to sniff in disdain before turning away, completely ignoring me to focus on the other capsule that held the crystal instead.

It then raised one of its claws and raked across the surface of the capsule before turning to us.

Ah… It probably wants the crystal inside of it.

I narrowed my eyes at it, wondering if it was going to attack us after it obtained the crystal.

The monster turned back to look at us and scratched at the capsule again, tilting its head as though asking if we did not understand that it wanted the crystal inside it.

Deciding to just go along with what it wants for now, I turned to Ries and nodded.

She turned her attention back to the console and started shifting the controls around until the liquid inside the other capsule was also sucked away, leaving the crystal to be suspended in the air.

The capsule then slowly opened, ejecting the crystal out which the creature immediately snatched up in its jaws before swallowing it whole.

I tensed up slightly, tightening my grip on my shotgun and prepared myself to shoot at the monster should it even turn to bare its teeth at us.

Thankfully, that didn’t happen as it slowly climbed down from the capsule to stand a short distance away from me.

I didn’t understand what it wanted until it gestured to itself before pointing at the door.

Err… Does this mean it wants to go outside?

I turned to the other girls and they simply looked back at me with the exact same expression on their faces where they were all clearly unsure of what’s going on.

Since we’ve already gotten this far… Fine…

I led the way towards the exit and the creature followed alongside me.

The other Psionic Chrysalis also stirred and started following us which made the girls tense up and they only relaxed when they realised that the Chrysalis were merely following after the newly transformed boy.

When I reached the door which prompted it to slide open, the creature overtook me and went out into the corridor first.

It was swivelling its head back and forth like it was looking for something before it turned to look at me and jerked its head towards one of the corridors.

Does it… Want me to follow it?

It crawled along the walls for a few steps before looking back at me, doing the same head jerk movement earlier.

It really wants me to follow it alright.

I nodded at the girls before I followed behind the creature, still keeping an eye out for other Chrysalis since I wasn’t sure that all of them obeyed this one of each had their own leader.

Couple that with the fact there was also still a bigger monster somewhere in this section who would just as easily eat us… We have to keep an eye out in case that one appears.

I’m not sure where this creature was leading us but it seemed quite insistent that we should follow it and kept looking back to make sure I was right behind it.

Eventually, we reached another Research Lab and it nodded its snout at the door to indicate I should open it.

Again… since we’ve gotten this far, I guess we should just go with it for now. I’m also curious what was in this Research Lab that it was looking for that it led us all the way here after all.

Hmm? Wait a minute…

I checked the location of this Research Lab with the map that I had made to check the locations of the kids who were being experimented upon.

There was no doubt about it, this was one of the labs that contained another kid inside.

Did this creature really lead me here so that I could save its friend or was it aiming for the crystal remains in this room?

After all, we already know that this thing would grow stronger by eating those crystal thingies so maybe it’s here to steal the crystals of others that were conservative?

Either way… I guess we’ll only find out after we go inside that room…

I hope this doesn’t come back to bite us in the ass…
