Chapter 419: Don’t Forget About It Blowing Up
Without the threat of the lizard nor the station exploding hanging over our heads, we were able to resume our looting of the station and took everything that was of value that wasn’t bolted down.
…
Ok that was a lie, we even took the stuff that was bolted down too.
Amber didn’t bother to hide the fact that she could manipulate fire anymore and used it to melt the bolts holding them down.
She did tell me that she was draining her suit’s oxygen to burn it so it wasn’t magical fire or being conjured out of nothing.
I don’t even know how she was doing that but I decided to save my questions for later.
Well… That means there’s a limit on how much she can burn since I didn’t want her to run out of air and die because of that.
I have a few hypotheses on how she was able to do that such as her being a secret breed of humans who have somehow obtained powers or something. Otherwise… Maybe Amber’s not actually human? Or she has alien genes in her or something, I dunno.
Still, I kept my questions to myself and just focused on looting.
…
Ok, that was a lie too because the Psionic Shadows kept clinging onto me so I couldn’t even do much but just float around the girls as they looted while I was surrounded by those Psionic Shadows.
I don’t even know why they were clinging to me so much…
The girls didn’t mind of course, all of them finding my predicament amusing instead.
Once we got everything that we possibly could, we took them all back to the docking hatch where we had to take turns to enter because of how many things we brought back.
The other girls went first and I was the last to enter the airlock before the door cycle closed behind me.
I felt gravity take hold of me again and I dropped onto the ground heavily, feeling awkward from the weight after spending so long being weightless.
Oof… This space suit really is cumbersome to use… I should really get those better ones when I can…
I waited patiently as the room was pressurised again, the vents making a hissing sound as air was pumped into the enclosed space.
I let out a sigh as I relaxed, feeling that we were finally done with this place.
This was supposed to just be an extra stop for us where we could get some easy money… Not find out about so many secrets and almost losing my life in the process…
Speaking of that…
“Err… I need you guys to get off me…” I muttered through the suit’s external speakers, addressing the Psionic Shadows that were still crowding around me.
They seemed quite reluctant and it took some time for them to pull themselves away from me, allowing me to take off the cumbersome space suit.
I took off the helmet and hung it up on the rack before undoing the straps on the suit itself.
The last clasp was at the back of the neck which I was fumbling around since I couldn’t see it and had to reach behind me to open it.
I then felt a hand touch mine and I realised it was one of the Psionic Shadows.
I paused, wondering what it wanted until it slowly lowered my hand until I was touching the clasp in question.
Oh~ Thank you~
I quickly undid the clasp that opened up the neck area of the suit which would then allow me to pull the suit down and let it drop to my waist.
Then I had to climb out from the suit which I almost tripped over before finally being free of it.

Ugh… This is such a tiring process…
As I picked up the suit to hang it up beside the helmet, I noticed that there was a gash along the side that I didn’t notice before.
Ah fuck… This suit is really broken it seems. Guess I really need to get a new one now… I’ll just throw this in the trash.
Wonder if Ries or Mara knows of any place that might sell these suits?
I picked up the last of the boxes of loot we got and… My face was suddenly covered in blackness.
“I can’t see anything if you cover my face like that…” I told them, prompting the Psionic Shadow that was covering my face to let go and allow me to see again.
With six of them clinging onto me, I stepped out through the airlock to find the girls all waiting for me on the other side.
Lea let out a rare chuckle, “Ara? They really seem to like you, Mistress.”
I rolled my eyes, “I’m glad you girls find this amusing. I sure hope that they don’t keep clinging to me like that though… Even though they’re weightless, their size makes it a little difficult to move…”
Right as those words left my mouth, the six of them detached themselves from me and I thought they decided to keep off me when the black matter suddenly wrapped around them to form a cocoon.
Then I realised only one of them wasn’t wrapped up in the cocoon which was the fairy sized Psionic Shadow.
The cocoon then shrank in size before popping open, revealing all of them had transformed into the same fairy figure.
I thought that the two Psionic Shadows that were transformed from boys would remain as a male figure but they transformed into the exact same feminine figure as the fairy.
Ok… I’m going to assume that they basically have no concept of gender or something? And they were just adopting the figure that was most convenient?
Once they had transformed, they immediately flew forward and latched themselves onto me again, making sure not to cover my face or impede my movements.
… Well fine… They’re small enough not to be a bother I guess.
I then turned to the main person that I really want to question right now.
“So… Where should we start, Amber?”
She poked her fingers together, “I… Ok, I guess let’s just start from the top… And since there’s no other way to put it… I was one of the people that got experimented on with the P-105-N1C drug to turn me into a Psionic.”
…
…
“What?” I replied eloquently.
Amber scratched her cheek, “It was another station… Somewhere within the inner colonies… I had grown up in that research lab and was experimented on until I managed to awaken Psionic powers.”
Ok, I’m going to be honest, I never thought that she could even be in that position… That was completely unexpected.
I turned to Mara and gave her a look which she instantly knew what I wanted to ask.
“Yes, I knew, Captain.”
I turned to the other two and they quickly shook their heads to show that this was also their first time learning about it.
I turned back to Amber, “Ok… So err… I don’t even know how to react right now?”
“Umm… Perhaps we might want to go somewhere else to talk about this instead of here?” Ries suggested.
Ah, right. I guess just standing in the cargo bay’s door hatch isn’t the best place to talk about such a heavy topic.
Right then, one of the Psionic Shadows floated in front of me before projecting a series of numbers in front of me.
Err… Zero zero one zero four two? Is this a set of coordinates?
Wait… The four two just changed to four one… Now it’s four zero…
Oh shit!! That’s the timer for the station to blow up, right?! Is it because we’re no longer on the station, they couldn’t stop the place from blowing up anymore?!
Then this isn’t the time to be standing around and talking right now!! We got to get the hell out of here!!
I turned to the girls and they seemed to have realised what the numbers meant and were already moving towards the bridge.
All of us ran out of the cargo bay and into the ship’s bridge, each of us taking our usual spots with Ries taking the pilot’s seat.
“We don’t know how big the blast is going to be so we need to get as far away as possible before it blows!” I called out, settling into my Captain’s seat to start the undocking process.
“Undocking right now, Captain!”
“Where should we set a course for, Tera?!” Amber asked from behind me.
“The planet these guys want us to go to! Do we have the coordinates for it?!”
Another Psionic Shadow floated above my shoulder to display another series of numbers, this time being actual coordinates.
“I got it, Tera! Location is set!”
“Set a course for it right now! Immediately engage Travel Drives the moment we undock and align ourselves to the location of the Natural Space Highway!”
Normally, you’re expected to fly out a set distance away from a station or planet before engaging your Travel Drives to minimise accidents and damage to the station from travelling at that speed, but since the station was already going to blow, there was no need to worry about that.
“Boss! We’re in position!”
“Punch it!”
The stars became streaks of light as our Travel Drives engaged, launching us straight into the blackness of space.
Finally… I think we can relax now…
