Chapter 421: Amber’s Escape
Amber pouted at me because I told her I wasn’t going to do her on the table just yet since we were clearly not done talking.
“How did you escape from there?” I asked.
She perked up immediately and grinned at me, a look I recognised to mean that she had something cheeky to tell me.
“Well, the requirement was that I had to talk about it in order to forget it, so…”
I understood what she was trying to hint at immediately.
“You stopped talking about the experiments?”
Her grin got a little wider, “Well… I have to say that I got a little lucky in that department. I did say they gave me a doll to get the effect of the memory erasure, right? There was another girl who got jealous of my doll and destroyed it. I didn’t want to let the researchers know about it so I just kept that fact a secret.”
I raised an eyebrow at her, “Wait… Some other kid got jealous that you got a doll and destroyed it?”
“Mmhmm~ I did say the entire thing was one big experiment, right? They were testing out the effectiveness of the memory wiping thing so everyone was expected to do different things to make us forget. That girl in particular wasn’t allowed to have a doll and I didn’t want to give her mine. So she tore off its head.”
“What happened to her?”
Amber shrugged, “Probably died in one of the experiments because I don’t remember seeing her after that.”
I guess that could be said to be karma? Does this universe even believe in karma anyway?
“What happened after that?” I asked.
She leaned on the table while Lea helped refill all of our cups with more tea, “So without anything to talk to about my experiences, I started remembering all the things that happened to me. It was by chance that I overheard them talking about how I would lose my memory afterwards which terrified me at that time. I thought I was going to lose my memory no matter what so I wanted to note down what I remembered before the day was over.”
Lea seemed surprised by that, “They gave you something to write with?”
She shook her head, “Of course not. One of the first things they found is that writing them down didn’t make us forget, we had to say it out for it to take effect. I’m not too sure about the reasoning, though.”
I narrowed my eyes at her, “Doesn’t that mean that all this while you could have just typed out all of this instead?”
She pouted at me, “Come on, Tera… You really can’t expect me to type everything that I have said so far out right? Who would even bother writing this entire history out? That’s just too many words, Tera!”
Well… I guess that’s true…
“So what did you do?” Ries asked, clearly interested in what Amber did to overcome that limitation.
Amber tapped her finger on the table, “Hmm… Let’s just say I used the bedframe to make a cut on my finger and then wrote some quick words on a piece of torn cloth. They were just short words which I was hoping would mean something to me when I woke up in the morning.”
Ries tilted her head at her, “I thought you would just choose not to sleep.”
“Mmm… I wasn’t sure what caused me to lose my memories at that time so I thought that once the time changed to morning, I would have completely forgotten everything. Anyway, I believe they also have some kind of sleeping drug placed somewhere because I tried to stay awake but still fell asleep in the end.”
I took a sip of my tea, “I’m guessing that they are making sure that everyone falls asleep so that the memory erasure takes effect?”
Amber nodded, “That might be why. Anyway, I was panicking when I woke up, thinking I had forgotten about it when I realised that the fact that I was panicking meant that I still remembered what happened yesterday. So that’s when I started to note down everything I could. Then I realised I was no longer forgetting anything so I started to plot my escape. And since I was plotting my escape, I wasn’t telling anyone about anything.”
“Wait, so how did you figure out that it was telling other people about it that made them forget?” Ries asked.
“Hmm~ Well, I started joining the other kids and listening in on them talking about their experiences. Then slowly from there I figured out that it was from talking about it that made us forget.”
That’s actually really impressive if you think about the fact that Amber should have still been a child at that point. I guess she’s a natural genius?
Still, it must have been really frightening for her to be stuck in that place all by herself where she didn’t know who she could or could not trust.
I reached out and held her hand, “What about your escape?”

She stared at my hand where I was squeezing her to reassure her that she was safe now.
“Ehehehe~ Well… I dare say that the escape itself was rather anticlimactic to be honest. When I finally awakened my potential as a Psionic, they started training me as one so I just took my time to learn as much as I could while making them think that I was unaware of all the experiments they did on me before. There was still the problem of them keeping a more careful watch on me and it was inevitable that they found out that my doll was broken.”
“Did they find out that you were bluffing?”
“Nope, I just pretended that I accidentally used my Psionic powers to tear it apart and had still been talking to it the entire time. Unfortunately, I did have to tell it some of the things that happened and forget about them voluntarily. But at least I still remember that I had to do that so I was able to plan out what I forgot and what I remembered. Then once I felt that I was used to my own powers, I simply used it to unlock my door, sneak past the guards which I memorised the patrol routes of and where the cameras were, then snuck into one of the supply ships and hid myself in there until we reached another station.”
Well, I guess she was telling the truth about her escape being anticlimactic… I thought for sure she was going to use her new powers to tear the place apart or even burn the station to pieces.
Then I realised one detail she did not mention.
“So did you figure out that you were able to control fire while still in that station or…?”
She shook her head, “Oh no, that happened afterwards. You see, I didn’t know where to go or what I should do aside from just needing to get as far away as possible from that research station. So I snuck into ships as stowaways and stole food to keep myself alive. Then by a stroke of luck, I ran into Mara while she was also running away from her family. She realised that I was a Psionic and also thought that I was someone who was running away from my family. Then she learned of my past and decided to take me to the outer colonies to hide, which is where we went to settle at Theeve station.”
“Eh? So you told her about your situation?”
“Ehehehe~ I didn’t need to, Tera. Remember what kind of Psionic she is?”
Ah… Right… She simply read her mind and figured out her situation from there…
Lea raised her hand, “Hold on, is she able to see the memories you had forgotten as well? Or is she unable to see those?”
“Unfortunately, it seems like the memory is just completely gone and not like hidden somewhere or locked away in my mind so she couldn’t see the memories I lost.”
I turned back to Amber, “So Mara taught you how to control fire?”
She scratched her cheek with her free hand, “Umm… Not exactly… She basically only taught me the basics of how to manipulate things as a Psionic. I then figured out that I could actually manipulate things on a molecular level and then learned how to create spontaneous combustion in the air to create and manipulate fire. Unfortunately, since she’s not an Elemental Psionic, I had to figure out the rest myself but I guess I did pretty good so far.”
Well, considering the fact that she was able to do what she did, I guess you could say she definitely did pretty good.
Amber then drank the rest of the tea before putting the cup down to grin at me, “That’s it. Now you know about my entire life Tera. So you know what we should do now right?”
It took me a moment to realise what she was talking about.
I let out a sigh, “Fine… Get on the table and spread your legs.”
She’s still really horny as always…
