Chapter 424: The Psionic Shadow’s Planet
We were well on our way to the planet that the Psionic Shadows had requested us to take them to.
Also, just saying, the station really did explode but we were already quite far away from it when it did, so the only thing we could see was just a small flash of light in the distance signifying the explosion.
The Psionic Shadows were still clinging on me but the good thing was that they learned how not to get in my way.
Sometimes I would even totally forget that they were there until they popped out suddenly and I got reminded I had six shadowy fairies constantly around me.
I’ve still yet to figure out why they were being so clingy though and the girls don’t know why either.
Amber suggested that perhaps they were just really attached to me because I was the one who saved them and while I guess that might be the case, I reminded her that the first one we freed also tried to attack us.
Her answer for that was that one specific Psionic Shadow was an idiot so it attacked me, unlike these other six that were smarter.
I don’t even know how to respond to that so I just dropped it.
Speaking of Amber…
Now that it was revealed that she’s a Psionic, her lifestyle changed completely as she no longer bothered to hide it.
From her, I understood the difference between a normal Psionic and an Elemental Psionic because while Mara still did most of her things manually, Amber basically just used her Psionic powers wherever it was convenient.
Heck, she’s even just floating around the ship instead of walking and I’ve seen stuff floating from one place to another and I know it was Amber’s doing.
Well, I don’t really have any complaints about it, I just thought it was amusing to see.
Though… She did use that to her advantage by sneaking up on me and ambushing me for surprise sex… But that’s besides the point.
It took us a day to reach the Natural Space Highway and we’ve been travelling on it for close to a day already as well.
Nothing really happened throughout the flight despite the new guests and Amber’s revelation about her past so it was rather uneventful.
On the third day, the planet that we were supposed to reach came into view.
It took us another half a day of flying in our ship before we finally reached the planet’s atmosphere.
“What’s the planet like?” I asked, looking over my shoulder.
Amber tapped on the map console and an image of the planet appeared above the map.
“Hmm… Oh? The planet actually contains a breathable atmosphere. Gravity… Is slightly lower at zero point eight Gs, so we can just get down there without using any suits.”
That’s nice, especially since mine was still broken so this is definitely convenient.
“Alright, then let’s initiate landing procedures. Do we know where exactly we need to land?”
“Yep, they already gave us the exact location they want us to take them. We can land near it and just walk the rest of the way.”
Oh good, I was almost afraid that there wouldn’t be enough space for us to land the ship near the location and we have to take a few more days to trek to the location itself.
I don’t think any of us would like to spend a few days camping on this unknown planet as well…
“Any signs of life on the planet?”
“Hmm… There are, Tera. But I don’t see any records of it so that means no one has surveyed this planet before. Would we be doing that?”
If I’m not wrong, people can do the work of surveying new planets they come across and sell the survey data on the market for Credits. And if the planet is unowned, the person that finds it can lay claim on the planet as well though they will need to at least develop the planet minimally to authenticate their claim to prevent people just going around to claim a bunch of planets but not do anything with them.
So if you have a bunch of Credits laying around, there’s nothing stopping you from finding an unowned planet, laying claim on it, then building your house there and living on it.

And if you were able to attract people to start settling there and then create a colony, you could be that planet’s governor.
No, you can’t just name yourself a king or an independent nation as long as you are still within the UTG’s space. You would just be a planet governor under the UTG and have to abide by their laws and pay their taxes.
In return, the UTG will protect the planet that you have claimed in case of an invasion and you could even request for resources within reasons to develop the planet.
Naturally, the conditions at the end don’t always happen and if the planet you claimed was deemed to be entirely of no value, then they wouldn’t care about what’s going on within the planet either.
And if your planet is deemed really valuable either because of its location or the resources it has… Then you can expect the UTG or independent companies to approach you and ask you to sell the rights of the planet to them if they don’t think you’re doing a good enough job of developing it.
In layman’s terms, it means you weren’t developing it in a way that they can exploit it.
And obviously, it is an open secret that there might be people sent to kill you in order to invalidate your claim over the planet if you refuse to sell it…
In other words, to have a planet is equivalent to painting a target on your back if you have one that people actually want.
So ironically, if you actually wish to start something like this, the safest choice for you would be to just find a planet that isn’t too rich in materials or too poor, otherwise you might have to live while knowing that people covet what you have and might attempt to steal the planet from you, even it might mean killing you just to get it.
Planets are really valuable here.
All of this I learned from Mara when I asked about encountering empty planets before and Amber even chimed in to give her own opinions from time to time.
She also told me that there were some smugglers, slavers and bandits who might hide on an empty planet to escape from Mercs.
So you could have just arrived on a supposedly empty planet and thought you might be alone when a swarm of bandits suddenly surrounds you robs you blind while you’re building your house there.
Because of that, there’s not a lot of people willing to be a surveyor since even just doing that might lead to you wasting a whole bunch of Credits and even losing your life. And that’s not even mentioning the amount of time you need to invest into this to make it worth while…
That’s why I kind of don’t really want to get myself involved in this… At least not yet…
“I’m not really in the mood to be a surveyor right now…” I sighed.
If we wanted to survey this planet, it might take us several weeks or months and I’m not interested in just staying here and doing that.
“We can just mark this planet in case we wish to come back in the future,” Lea suggested.
Amber nodded, “For someone to come here, they would need to find that Natural Space Highway to get to the previous station before finding the next one that leads here. I doubt people would be able to find both of those that easily.”
I suppose she has a point, let’s do just that then.
Our slip slowly descended through the atmosphere and we broke through the clouds to reveal a flat piece of land with dark brown coloured earth beneath us.
I was just about to ask where the landing zone was when I noticed a black coloured stone pillar that was at least the size of our ship floating above the ground below us.
Underneath said pillar was a rather large hole that seemed to stretch endlessly down into the ground.
As we got even closer to it, the location was zoomed in on my screen and I could see that there were even pieces of smaller rocks floating around said pillar.
Yep, no question about it, we’re definitely supposed to go there.
I brought the ship as close to the location as possible without crashing into the pillar while also still remaining a walkable distance away.
The landing thrusters of our ship slowed down our descent before slowly touching down on the surface of the planet.
Guess now we’re officially the first people to touch down on this planet.
Even though it should be safe, all of us still equipped ourselves normally with our guns and shields before heading towards the ship’s landing bay. There’s no telling that the wildlife here won’t attack us, after all.
The only thing we did not change into was the space suits which would only serve to hinder from moving around properly.
I really should get one of those skin tight ones…
The ramp lowered and we disembarked from the ship, setting out on the path towards that black stone pillar that the Psionic Shadows clearly wanted us to bring them there.
I just hope that this wasn’t some kind of elaborate trap that these Psionic Shadows have thought of…
