Chapter 426: More Memory Cards
I looked at the black ring that was now on my index finger.
To be honest, it looked like it was made out of obsidian except that it was painted matte black where it doesn’t reflect any light.
Just saying, after the black matter attached itself to me, the hole in the ground also closed up, leaving no trace of it ever existing.
It isn’t limited to a ring either since I asked what other things it could change into and it turned itself into a fingerless glove, a wrist bangle, an elbow guard, a shoulder guard, a necklace, a hair pin and even a face mask.
One thing in common was that they were all accessories that I had to wear on me and it seems like they were doing that on purpose.
We decided to just take a break on the planet instead of flying off straight away since we don’t exactly have a destination we have to head to yet.
It’s pretty rare to find a planet that is actually habitable like this so it’s apparently quite a big deal and the girls were actually quite excited about this.
The one that was the most excited was obviously Lea who was spending all her free time marvelling at the plant life that was around the vicinity of our ship.
She had been collecting samples all around and I think she’s trying to decide if any of the plants were worth bringing back to our ship to cultivate.
I actually thought about checking out the animals too but it seems like the earlier tremor had scared off those cow like animals and I can’t be bothered to go hunt them down so that’s a bummer.
As for the other girls… Apparently this was Amber’s first time actually standing on a planet that did not require her to use a space suit so she was really taking the chance to enjoy the planet’s surface.
And by that, I meant that she was just laying down on the grass outside and rolling around from time to time while making giggling noises.
Ries did tell us that this was not her first time on a planet but the last time she was on one was when she was really young and had already forgotten about it.
That’s why I wasn’t surprised to find the Maochatte joining Amber outside the ship as well.
I made a note to perhaps claim this planet one day, though I was still hoping that I could go back to Earth and see what has become of it in this universe.
Still, in case that dream wasn’t feasible, then at least there’s a planet where I could make a new home if I had grown tired of the space life.
I wonder just how much capital do I need to develop a planet? Not to the size of a city of course, but just enough that a group of people could live on it.
The only people who weren’t really that excited about the new planet were Mara and myself.
Why I wasn’t that excited was obvious enough, since I’ve practically lived my life on one so it was space that was special to me.
Mara was also in the same situation as me since she also grew up on the surface of a planet so she wasn’t really as enthusiastic about being on a habitable planet like the other girls were.
Thus, the two of us were staying on board the ship for this rest time while the other girls were out there enjoying themselves.
While Mara was in the infirmary doing her own research, I took the chance to sort through the loot that we’ve looted from the military research station.
We’ve already done some sorting the past few days but it was mostly for larger objects like weapons, ammunition boxes, storage containers, maintenance supplies and some precious metals.
Today, I was going through the smaller stuff like personal terminals, Credit chips and other miscellaneous stuff that we just took with us because it looked valuable.
Most of the personal terminals we’ve found had personal logs of the staff working at the research station, some of them talking about how they were dealing with the ‘research subjects’ and some providing more details on what they were doing to them.
Those I just placed them aside in case someone else wants to read them but I was definitely not interested in that.
Then I came across a rather familiar looking memory card in a box of stuff.
Wait… Isn’t this one of those memory cards that I found on the Pirate Lord? I’m surprised that it’s even here since I was expecting to only find these on pirates.
Incidentally, we got this box in particular from one of the supposed ‘head researchers’ there. At least that was what was written on the door of the room when we entered to loot that particular area.
There were a few other things inside the box that we took so I left that memory card aside for now and took a look at what else was inside there.

I found a few Credit Chips inside the box and I loaded it into my Codex, finding a total of several thousand Credits in those Credit chips.
Not really a lot for a Head Researcher, but I guess this person most likely brought most of their Credits with them instead of leaving it laying around in their office.
I then found a personal terminal at the very bottom of the box and pulled it out, checking to see that it was still intact and functional.
Just like how I handled all the other personal terminals so far, I used my Codex to hack and unlock it.
I then scrolled through its logs to see if there was anything interesting recorded there and I found a specific log with the title ‘Pre-AI Rebellion Memory Card’.
It was obvious what it was referring to so I went ahead to open it to see what was written there.
‘Today one of the patrols had come across a few pirates that somehow found their way into this system. They managed to sneak up on them and boarded them to capture them all so there shouldn’t be any leaks on our location.
One of them had this Pre-AI Rebellion tech Memory Card so we started interrogating him on where he obtained it. It seems like this particular type of Memory Card was being circulated amongst the pirates where they believe it would reveal a map that would lead them to some kind of treasure.
What exactly that treasure is, he does not know. But what he does know is that you need to gather a set number of Memory Cards to be able to create a map and you will then need to combine it with another map data chip that will pinpoint the exact location of the treasure. The pirate gang that this group belonged to has the map data chip but do not have enough Memory Cards to create the map yet, which was why they were transporting this Memory Card back to their base.
Since this wasn’t really what we are currently focused on, I shall make a report on it later on and see if there’s anyone that might be willing to try and gather these Memory Cards as well. The only problem is the map data chip which I am unsure of where one might obtain one short of this pirate gang’s leader.
Unfortunately, the location of the base is lost to us as the pirate expired shortly after and the navigation records of their ship are locked behind unusually secure digital walls. It might take us quite a bit to hack into it but we don’t have the resources to do that right now.
Hopefully the current subjects show a bit more results which might give us some leeway to allocate resources away for side projects soon.’
I closed the personal terminal and looked back into the box again.
There, at the corner of the box, was a black sphere which I guessed must be the ship’s navigation records the log was talking about.
Well, there’s only one thing to do now.
I used my Codex to connect to the black sphere and easily unlocked it to access its navigation records.
A map was then projected in front of me which showed a map of the local systems and there was one particular system with a station that was marked as home.
I quickly realised that it wasn’t really a pirate base but an actual trading station that was located above a mining planet.
My assumption is that the pirates have either taken over the station or were hiding amongst the people and made it their secret base.
Maybe they thought the most dangerous place was the safest place?
Either way, I guess we have our next destination set for us.
Hey, this is supposed to lead us to treasure right? You think I was going to just ignore that? Of course I’m going to go after it!
Besides, we already gathered a few of the Memory Cards already so if we take this pirate leader’s Memory Cards, it might just be enough to reveal the map!
