Chapter 432: They’re Also Looking For Something
Our ship landed on the landing pad and I made sure to lock the cockpit of my ship before joining the other two at the exit ramp.
The two girls were already suited up and waiting for me as the ramp was lowered, both of them letting me step out through the door before following behind.
I expected the hangar to look like all the other hangars that I’ve been to so far, but I’m surprised to see that there were tracks on the ceiling and also conveyor belts running along the floor with guard rails set up to prevent people walking onto them. If you wish to walk across a conveyor belt, you’d need to find an intersection where they would regulate the flow of the conveyor belt to allow you to walk past.
What are these tracks and conveyor belts for you might ask? Why for the energy cells they are manufacturing of course!
There were energy cells of different sizes zipping along the tracks and also being carried along the conveyor belts to reach their destinations.
I could already tell that, to the people in charge of this station, people are secondary and the goods they are working on are the priority.
As soon as we stepped onto the hangar, a woman that was wearing office clothes ran up to us while looking out of breath with a relatively large personal terminal clutched in her arms.
“Wel… Welcome to the station! How… Huff, huff… How many Energy Cells will you be ordering today?”
I blinked at her before answering, “We have a C Class ship so we’ll need three pallets of it.”
She didn’t even blink before she went to tap on her personal terminal, “Understood, three pallets of Energy Cells. That would bring you up to three thousand Credits, would that be ok?”
Oh wow, that’s cheap as hell. If I was purchasing this one at a normal station, we would be looking at maybe three times that price.
I guess that’s the price you have to pay for convenience.
She waited there patiently and I realised she was waiting for me to pay the stated amount so I quickly brought up my Codex and transferred the Credits over.
She then bowed her head, “I have indeed received the credits, the Energy Cells will be delivered shortly. If there are any issues, please look for one of the staff. Thank you for your patronage.”
She then ran off to the next landing pad where another ship captain was already waiting there for her. Seems like this place is really busy.
Just as I was wondering how long it would take for the Energy Cells to be delivered, the conveyor belt near us started to move and three pellets of the Energy Cells that had been on the main line of conveyor belts were redirected towards our landing pad.
They were then deposited right at the edge of the landing pad and I guess we would need to transport them onto the ship ourselves.
Not really a problem for us since we brought some drones to help us carry them onto the ship but I wondered what a ship captain without worker drones would do until I saw the control panel at the edge of the landing pad.
On the control panel was a distinct button with the words ‘worker drone rental – A hundred Credits per drone’.
Guess I shouldn’t be surprised that they would try to scalp you for as much Credits as they could after selling their Energy Cells for that cheap.
I bet the only reason why they even have free parking for a day was that they hoped people might stay for a bit on the station and spend some Credits on it. Then they want you gone by the end of the day so that they could get more customers in and get more money.
I let the drones do the work and left that hangar with the girls, our first destination being the Guild.
We figured that we could get information for potential buyers of our goods and also look for jobs at the same time. And if we can also hear any gossip or even find any details related to this supposed treasure or the pirate group we’re hunting, that would be a good bonus too.
We got directions to the Guild from one of the staff nearby and we passed through the security checkpoint without much issues.
The security here seems quite lax too, probably because it’s not like there’s anything worth robbing here I guess?
The Guild building was relatively easy to find since we just needed to look for the building with the most foot traffic around it. Not because there were a lot of Mercs or people using the Guild, but because the Guild was located right in between two of the most frequented bars in this station.
We had to squeeze past the crowd to get to the Guild and I noted that most of the people around looked like workers than Mercs. I guess we must have arrived right as the shift changed which was why there were so many people gathered here.
We managed to enter the Guild without much issues and while I wouldn’t say that the Guild was deserted, there were certainly fewer people here than I thought.
Then again, if you were only here to look for Mercenary work, you could just look for it on your personal terminal instead of coming here anyway so that’s probably one of the reasons.
For now, we went directly to the counter where a rather bored looking woman was scrolling through her personal terminal behind it, the woman not even realising we were there until we were standing right in front of the counter.

She hurriedly placed her personal terminal aside and turned to us, “Hello there. Is there anything I can help you with?”
“We’re wondering if there’s a market here to sell weapons that we’ve looted?” I asked directly.
“Oh, that… Umm… There’s actually a Trader Union branch here so you should be able to list the things you want to sell on the GalaNet.”
“We’ll only be here for a day at most so we’re looking for an immediate turnover if possible.”
“Ah… In that case, you might want to try the Peddler’s Street just a short distance down from here. Most visitors who are looking to sell things would set up a temporary stall there and lay out their wares for others to buy so you can do that. Though whether people would buy from you would be another question altogether.”
I raised an eyebrow at her, “Peddler’s Street?”
She nodded, “Sometimes a few Captains are looking to make a quick Credit so they sell things like food, appliances and other items that are difficult to get on this station from outside the system. The workers might buy them if they’re interested but… There’s also some Mercs who stop by here to get the cheaper Energy Cells so they might also be interested in buying weapons if the ones you’re offering are of good quality.”
There’s no need to worry about the quality in my case but I guess I should just keep that to myself for now.
I then asked about the other thing that we were here for.
“Are there any pirate activity around this system recently?”
The receptionist thought for a moment, “Around this system? Umm… I’m assuming you are looking for pirate subjugation jobs right? If that’s the case, I would recommend that you head to the system beside this one. There’s been quite a number of raids happening there and I think there might even be convoys here that are looking for more Mercenary escorts so you should be able to get a job with them too.”
She then tapped on the table which projected a map in front of me to show the star systems around here.
What do you know? The system she was talking about was on the way to the star system that we want to go to. That means this was basically free Credits for us~
Amber leaned on the counter, “Do we know why there’s more pirates there?”
She shook her head, “There isn’t any confirmed information and the pirates aren’t letting themselves get captured either. Any pirate that had their ships disabled killed themselves before they could be captured to avoid interrogation.”
What the heck? I thought pirates would prioritise their own lives at all cost? This was definitely unusual…
The receptionist then leaned forward a little and her voice dropped, “But… There’s some people who had theorised that the pirates are looking for something… And there were reports that the pirates were even fighting amongst each other so there might be a faction war going on with them right now…”
Wait… Looking for something? It can’t be right? Are they looking for the treasure? Or are they looking for more Memory Cards?
Looks like we really can’t ignore this after all.
