- Chapter 441 - Chapter 441: Boarding The Client's Ship
Chapter 441: Boarding The Client’s Ship
I contacted the client’s ship as I neared its docking hatch and it seems like there were a few other Mercs who had the same idea as well since their ships were also hovering around it.
“What?!” Came the client’s voice through the comms, though it sounded quite garbled.
“We’re coming to help, requesting permission to dock.”
“Fucking… Just do it! Hurry up!”
The other side hung up before I could acknowledge his confirmation so I just went ahead to position my ship beside the client’s ship, aligning our hatch with theirs.
The other Mercs were hovering around the Corvette and I believe they would be space walking their way onto the ship instead as tactical insertions.
Everyone else seemed content to keep watch around us in case more pirates showed up but I have a feeling these guys would be ready to run at a moment’s notice should more enemies show up.
That’s why we have to settle this quickly.
The moment the docking hatch cycled open, I stepped onto the other ship, only to realise that the interior was quite dark with only the emergency lights still on.
“What the heck?” I couldn’t help but mutter.
“The boarders must have triggered an EMP pulse when it hit the ship and disabled the power generators. Only the emergency power generator is working but judging from the conditions here… I believe only the life support, emergency lights and gravity generators are working,” Amber answered.
Mara peeked around my shoulder, “That means their security systems are offline… Meaning we don’t need to worry about being recorded~”
It took me a moment to realise what she meant while Amber immediately understood since she reached up her hand and ignited a ball of fire to float in the air, the fire acting as a light source for us.
I hefted my shotgun and looked around the corridor, wondering where we should be going to deal with the enemy boarding party.
That was when I heard gunshots coming from the right.
Guess that answers our question.
I led the way as I charged down the corridor, using the sounds of the gunshots to guide me to where the firefight was.
As the sounds of gunshots got louder and louder, I was sure that we were getting close to the enemies and preparing myself to join in the fight.
But as I turned the corner, I ran face first into what felt like a solid wall and stumbled back.
When I looked up, I saw a group of four people wearing full body armour including a helmet that completely covered their heads, leaving only a red visor at where their eyes were that shone in the dark.
I was wondering if these were friendlies until they raised their weapons to point it at me.
I raised my own shotgun as well and fired from the hip, my shotgun pellets hitting against a translucent shield that was projected in front of the guy I was shooting.
Just as I was about to fire again, the four guys suddenly lifted up their hands and fired their guns at the ceiling instead of me.
I immediately knew what caused it and turned back to see Amber pointing her palm at them.
She then slowly squeezed her hand into a fist and choked gurgles coming from within the helmets of those four people.
When her fist was fully clenched, four instances of something being crushed reverberated from the neck section of those armoured men and they quickly collapsed onto the ground, dead.
That is so cool.
Also, just because I don’t say this enough… Psionics are so overpowered.
Amber turned to grin at me, “Coast is clear, Tera~”
Mmhmm… I can see that…

Mara took one look at the dead guys and nodded, “These are definitely the house guards of some Noble Family. Look here.”
She pointed at the shoulder where I realised the colour looked a bit off compared to the rest of the armour.
“They must have painted over or scratched off the insignia of that noble house so that they wouldn’t be found out.”
Guess we’ve really involved ourselves in some noble politics for this job…
Just to make sure that they didn’t think a Psionic had come through here, I went ahead to blast all four of them in the neck with my shotgun so it looked like they were killed with a gun instead.
With that done, we continued towards the sounds of gunfight once more, taking a note of where these guys were so that we could loot them later.
Hey, if they weren’t going to let us loot the ships we destroyed, we should be allowed to loot these guys, right?
The only reason why I have not complained about it was because I know the answer that would come out from that guy would be to deal with it.
The earlier group we came across must have been a separate group of the boarders who came here and were most likely hunting for whoever our client was transporting while the others were holding off the ship’s security forces.
As though to confirm my thoughts, a short walk down the corridor later and we found several dead bodies of what looked like the crew members of this ship, all of them shot dead.
I only knew that because all of them were wearing matching uniforms.
There were at least a dozen of them and seeing no dead armoured guys meant that those four guys from earlier wiped out this entire group without suffering a single casualty.
If it wasn’t for Amber crushing their throats, I might have been in trouble since I don’t think I could have taken them on especially with that many against me.
That’s why I went ahead to eject the remaining shells in my shotgun and swapped them out for Shield Buster and Slug rounds in an alternating order.
The fire fight was still going on so we quickly proceeded towards the source of the sound.
At least the corridors for this ship were quite wide so we didn’t need to worry about tripping over the corpses that littered the floors.
Those guys really killed a lot of the crew already.
Right as I turned another corner, I spotted even more armoured guys up ahead and quickly ducked back around the corner, hiding myself.
Luckily they didn’t seem to have seen me yet so they didn’t react.
Peeking around the wall, I realised that there were three of them and they were guarding the place that their ship had smashed into the Corvette.
The pointed part of the ship had opened up to reveal a doorway which I assume was where these guys had poured out from to board the ship.
The fact that they were guarding it must mean that the ship was also their exit which they probably plan to use to escape with whoever our client was escorting.
I turned back to Amber and Mara who were behind me and lifted up three fingers before pointing at each of us in turn.
Both of them nodded, understanding that we would each take out one on our own.
Ok, yeah, Amber could probably take them all out on her own but let me have some action too, ok?
I rushed out from the corner and dashed towards the armoured guy that was closest to me,prompting Mara and Amber to run out after me as well.
They spotted me pretty quickly and the one furthest away tried to lift his weapon to point in our direction.
Unfortunately for him, Amber was faster as she threw the fireball that she had been using as a light source at him, the ball exploding in his face and sending him stumbling back.
The second one also tried to lift his gun but Mara swung her hand upwards and the gun flew out of his hands and smacked him underneath his chin, similarly causing him to stumble back.
As for me, I fired the Shield Buster round at my target, his shield materialising to protect him from the blast.
But instead of breaking, it still held firm even as I fired the slug round after it to smash against his shield.
He spun around and the red lights of his visor seemed to shine as he raised his rifle in my direction.
I took a risk and fired another Shield Buster round, this time successfully breaking his shield and leaving him vulnerable.
He pulled the trigger and a hail of lasers flew towards my direction, my shield blocking them all and protecting me from being hit.
I was almost right in front of him before I fired my shotgun again, the slug round easily punching through the helmet he was wearing to leave a hole at where his forehead would be.
The guy wobbled on his feet for a moment before dropping heavily onto the ground with a thud.
Turning to the side, I found Amber crushing the throat of her target while Mara seemed to have opted to use a heavy box laying by the side to smash the poor dude to death.
Exit secured I guess, but the firefight we were hearing earlier had sudden;y gone silent.
That’s not a good sign…
