Chapter 442: They’re In The Bridge
After all the gunshots that we heard, the silence now was quite deafening.
I looked at the two of them and they nodded, showing that they were both prepared to continue onwards.
Reloading my shotgun, I stepped over the dead bodies and continued down the corridor keeping an eye out for any other enemies around.
As we continued on, we came across a few more corpses though these were part of the ship’s crew but they weren’t armed.
I’m guessing they were just non-combat personnel that were unfortunate enough to be in the vicinity when these armoured guys first boarded and got shot anyway.
Stepping past them, we continued until we reached a T-Junction where signs of a recent firefight could be seen.
There were laser burn marks and bullet holes on the walls and several corpses also littered the ground, one of them being the armoured guys with several bullet holes through his body.
Seems like they managed to kill one guy after all.
Turning down the T-Junction where the trail of bullet holes on the wall continued, I realised that this path led to the bridge of the ship.
There were even more corpses here as, no doubt, the staff of this ship tried to defend against these armoured guys from reaching the bridge.
As we got closer to the door that I presume led to the bridge, I could hear some voices coming from within.
Giving the girls a look, we crept closer to the doorway and hid behind the door frame, trying to listen in on the conversation happening on the other side of the open door.
“I’m being generous right now, captain. Tell us where the researchers are and we’ll leave the rest of you alive. Is that not beneficial to you?”
There was silence for a few moments before it was broken by an audible sigh and the same voice spoke again.
“You’re really testing my patience here, captain. I know you see yourself as some kind of loyal dog to the family you serve and would gladly die for them… But what about your crew?”
There was another pause so I took the risk to peek around the door frame to see what was going on.
Six of those armoured men were standing inside the room surrounding our client and several other people whom I’m guessing were his crew members.
Our client and his crew were made to kneel at the side of the room and two of the armoured men seemed to be interrogating the captain while the other four looked like they were searching for something around the room.
Right now, one of the armoured men was standing in front of the captain and bearing down on him. I assume that he’s the one who has been talking so far.
The captain himself was looking down while kneeling, refusing to look the armoured guy in the face.
As if to confirm my thoughts, the armoured guy let out another sigh before walking over to one of the crew members kneeling at the end of the line.
“Are you sure you want to be this stubborn, captain? All you need to do is tell me where they are located on the ship. You know we’ll find them eventually right? We’re just giving you a chance to help you and your crew by helping us.”
The captain remained silent.
The armoured guy sighed again before lifting up his rifle to point at the male crew member at the end, “Last chance captain, or else I’m going to slowly kill each of them right in front of you.”
I looked at the girls in alarm and they stood up in preparation to rush in.
But before we could even move, the sound of a gun shooting could be heard coming from the other room.
I swivelled my head back just in time to see the crew mate’s head tilt back before collapsing onto the ground on his side.
Shit…
I was about to rush in before Amber grabbed me by the shoulder and pulled me back, causing me to look back at her questioningly.
“Mara and I won’t be using our Psionic powers with those people there, Tera… Unless you want us to kill all the witnesses afterwards… I mean… I might still be able to get away with some discreet use of it but I won’t be snapping their necks…”

Ah… That’s right… These people are supposedly working for Mara’s family after all… IT would not be a good idea for them to see any instances of Psionic powers being used…
“Actually… Are you even alright being here? Will they recognise you?” I asked, looking at Mara.
Mara shook her head, “Only those who are hunting me and my direct family knows what I look like, Captain. And these people definitely do not belong to either of those categories.”
Fair enough…
I then peeked inside the room again.
If we do not have the advantage of having Psionics on our side… Then it might be difficult to fight and protect those hostages at the same time.
That’s why I was trying to see if there was any other way to deal with this.
If it wasn’t possible to ensure our own safety while dealing with these guys, then I would not hesitate to just abandon them and get out of here instead.
That was when I noticed what looked like a ventilation shaft above the captain.
An idea came to me.
“Amber… Mara… Do you think you can drop that on top of those guys? It can act as cover for the captain and the crew while we deal with the remaining enemies,” I asked.
The two girls looked at what I was pointing at before turning back to me.
“But… That would be obvious we are using our telekinesis, right?” Amber pointed out.
I shook my head, “I’ll shoot at it so it’ll look like my shot dislodge it from the ceiling. Sure, it’s practically impossible but who’s going to check, right?”
The two of them looked at each other before nodding at me.
Looks like we’re a go then.
I used the screen on my shotgun to make some adjustments to the order of rounds that I would be shooting before peering into the room again.
The armoured guy approached the next crew member with his gun pointed at that guy’s head.
“Is this worth it, captain? Your crew is literally dying for you, you know? Maybe you should just accept my offer?”
“Now!” I cried out, firing a shot from my shotgun at the ventilation shaft.
Beside me, Amber and Mara pulled her hands down and the bolts holding the large metallic pipe snapped free before the entire thing came swinging down to smash against the armoured guy, sending him flying away.
The other armoured guy was also unfortunate enough to be standing nearby and the first guy ended up crashing into him, sending the two of them flying away.
I think it was obvious that under normal circumstances, even if the pipe were to break normally, there wouldn’t be enough force to send them flying away like that.
It’s only due to Mara and Amber giving it a little push that it could blow them away and judging by how they fell and never got back up, I think it’s safe to assume they’ve been knocked out.
And by sheer ‘luck’, the other end of the ventilation shaft broke and fell down, crashing right in front of the captain and his crew to act as cover for them.
I then rushed into the room and took aim at the nearest guy, firing the first shield buster round at him.
His shield flared to life as he reached for his gun that he had left hanging on his hip, protecting him from the projectile.
Unfazed, I fired the second shield buster round that I had prepared beforehand, shattering the shield right as he levelled his rifle at me.
Both of us pulled the trigger at the same time and my slug round pierced through his helmet while his laser rounds hit me in the chest, my shield protecting me from getting pierced by the laser.
I dove for cover right as the other three armoured men tried to shoot at me, their laser rounds piercing through the space that I had occupied earlier to leave scorch marks on the wall.
Amber and Mara dashed in after me and started firing their own guns at them, taking the attention away from me while they moved to their own cover.
I thought I would need to worry about the captain and his crew being a burden but the guy immediately picked up the two guns that the first two armoured men had dropped after being hit by the shaft to start shooting at them with a rifle in each hand.
Holy crap, even though this guy might be an idiot for not letting us pursue those ‘pirates’ earlier, he’s got balls of steel I’ll give him that.
I rolled over behind the cover near him just as he took cover from returning fire himself.
“Any plans?” He asked, not even questioning who I was.
“Just shoot them till they’re dead?” I answered back.
He let out a grunt before nodding, “Works for me.”
Without hesitation, he popped out from the cover and started shooting both the laser rifles down at the armoured men while his crew hid themselves behind the improvised cover we made for them.
I can’t tell if this guy’s crazy or an idiot to be honest… But whatever, shoot first, talk later!
