Chapter 445: That Armour Isn’t Going To Help
This time, our formation changed and Amber was the one leading the way while Mara took the back, placing me in the centre of the group.
There wasn’t really a need for us to walk in a single file since it’s not like the corridor was especially narrow but they insisted on advancing this way so I just went along with it.
“How are things on your end, Ries? Lea?” I asked through the comms.
“All quiet here, Mistress.”
“Yeah, no need to worry about us, Boss! I thought they would be sending some ships to attack us to distract us from this but none showed up so far!”
That was what I was afraid of as well.
Why would they arrange for an attack like this but yet not secure an escape route?
Did they believe that these people would not need backup at all? In that case, why attack us in the first place? Why not board that ship while we were in the middle of that fight earlier instead of boarding them after the fight?
Do they have another plan or they just fucked up? Was us breaking out of their ambush not part of their plan?
Well, no use thinking about it since it’s not like we’ll figure out right now anyway. All we can do is just deal with the current situation while taking precautions against any potential problems.
“Got it, let me know if anything comes up,” I told them.
The two girls answered an affirmative before I turned my attention back to the front.
Everything has been quiet so far which was what worried me.
Surely they were expecting us to chase after them, right? So why isn’t there anyone waiting to attack us?
Not that I want to be attacked but… I want to kill them to claim that bounty you know?
I wasn’t too worried about an ambush because Mara was fully focused on her telepathy skill right now, so she should be able to sense any thoughts that were near us.
So even if they were trying to ambush us, it wouldn’t matter because Mara would be able to sense them before they could even spring their trap.
As if they had heard me, Mara suddenly spoke up from behind, “Captain… They’re up ahead… There’s a lot of them…”
“Do you have an exact number?”
“Mnn… I can try to get a number but it’ll be difficult with this many thoughts… I can give an estimate of at least ten people I suppose?”
“Can we handle that?”
Amber chuckled, “Ehehehe~ Don’t worry Tera~ We can handle that many, no problem~”
Alright… I trust them…
We proceeded forward, acting like we didn’t know what was up ahead.
Moving forward, we came to another T-junction which seemed to lead to the crew quarters on each side of the corridor.
I turned behind to look at Mara and she pointed towards the right before pointing towards the left.
Guess that means they decided to split up into two groups so that they could pincer us.
Just as I was about to move forward, she suddenly raised a hand to stop me before pointing upwards.
Amber didn’t even hesitate and reach her hand to point her palm upwards before pulling it down.
The ceiling panel got ripped away and someone fell down through, letting out a surprised gasp as he did so.

Amber caught him before he could fall onto the ground with her telekinesis, but it wasn’t to save him, oh no. She twisted her wrist and the guy’s neck snapped with a loud crack before she tossed him away like he was just trash.
She turned back to the corridor and shot me a grin, “Cover me? Tera?”
I hefted my shotgun, “I got your back.”
She then dashed forward and rushed towards the right with Mara, leaving me to watch the left side.
I aimed down my shotgun’s sights and prepared to fire, only to see no one there.
Eh? Mara pointed in this direction as well didn’t she? Didn’t that mean there were people over here? Why isn’t there anyone?
I chanced a look behind me and I found three people that were caught in Amber’s telekinetic grip, my lover flinging them towards the wall and smashing them against it.
Eh? Only three? Didn’t Mara say that there were at least ten?
One of the armoured men let out a shout, “She… She’s a Psi–”
Amber pushed her palm forward more and the guy who tried to shout smashed through the wall, leaving a large hole that revealed the interior of the room behind it.
I then realised that there were more of those armoured men hiding inside the room and they were obviously not expecting the wall to break open like that.
Does that mean…
I hurriedly turned back to face the corridor, right as the door closest to me on my left opened, prompting one of those armoured men to appear.
He tried to slam the butt of his rifle against my face but I managed to side step it just in time, letting his swing hit empty air.
I swung my shotgun to point at him and fired from the hip, the shield buster round blasting against his shield though it did not break it yet.
He must have realised what I was trying to do because he quickly jumped back, causing my second shot to miss and hit the wall behind him instead.
He swung his own rifle to point at me, firing a quick three round burst at my chest area which my shield managed to absorb.
Knowing that the next round in my shotgun was a slug round, I tried to close the distance between us to try and get past his shield.
I reached out and grabbed his rifle, pulling it to point at the side while I shove my shotgun into his abdomen.
He tried to pull back but it was too late as I pulled the trigger, firing the slug round at point blank range.
The sound of metal piercing through flesh could be heard as his stomach got blown open by the slug round, his armour completely useless in stopping it at this range.
I kicked him aside right as another of those armoured men stepped through the door to attack me
He lifted his gun to shoot at me but didn’t get the chance to actually pull the trigger as another of those armoured men got sent flying from the other corridor to smash into his hand, causing him to lose his grip on his weapon and letting it fly away down the corridor.
He looked down at his empty hands as though unsure of what just happened but I had no hesitation in firing the two shots needed to shatter his shield.
To his credit, he managed to recover after the first shot and tried to rush at me to engage me in close combat.
Too bad for him his shield had already broken by the time he reached me and I didn’t even need to aim to fire the slug round that punctured his chest, blasting him back several steps.
I turned to check if there were any other enemies coming from the opposite side but it seems like they only assigned two people on this side of the corridor.
Looking back on Amber’s side, I found her surrounded by a whirlwind of flame that she was using to burn several of those armoured men that Mara was lifting up in front of her.
Their screams of agony echoed around the corridor, alerting another group of those armoured men to appear from another door further down the corridor.
They were fully prepared to start shooting in our direction until they saw the mini fire tornado in front of them.
Amber turned and shot her palm out towards them, causing the tornado to disperse and reform into balls of fire which she launched towards the new group of enemies.
The ones that she had been burning were charred but still alive, leaving Mara to deal with them by repeatedly smashing them up into the ceiling and down into the ground.
The new group that just appeared tried to run back into the room again but the fireballs were faster, the projectiles exploding the moment it reached them and blowing them away.
Their shields seemed to have saved them from the fire blast but all it took was a few more fireballs that Amber sent their way before the shields broke and the armoured men were blasted apart.
One of them managed to avoid the fireballs and tried to crawl back inside the room for cover but Amber pulled him back with her telekinesis before blasting him with a gout of flames.
The fact that I know she could simply snap their necks to kill them instead of burning them told me that she was really just doing this to either show off or for fun.
Not gonna lie… If she’s showing off, it’s working because she’s looking pretty hot to me right now.
