Thankfully, the rest of the trip was uneventful…

That is… If you ignored the fact that our guests kept clamouring after me for my honey as uneventful… Or the fact that they were basically camping in the dining room after that…

Or that time where they were literally crawling after me trying to suck me off…

That was really awkward so I had to pretend like I didn’t notice them for the entire time…

My honey is really dangerous it seems… Is there some weird thing about it that makes people like this? Because I don’t think this is normal at all…

I even had Mara to double check that my honey had nothing weird about it and she assured me that it had the same properties as organic honey so there was nothing weird about it.

That’s why I still don’t know why they would end up like this but then I just gave up on trying to figure it out. It’s not like they would be staying with us for long anyway and we’ll probably just lose contact after this job.

Speaking of which…

“It’s… Oddly beautiful…” I whispered, looking out the window on the bridge.

In front of us, what looked like a black sun with a white-ish halo around it that made it look like it was surrounded by some kind of white mist. The white mist itself seemed to also form a ring around its centre giving it a ‘ring’ of sorts.

Then, outside that ring was a lone station revolving around that black ‘sun’.

“First time seeing a black hole?” Mara asked.

“Well… Technically no… But first time in person I guess,” I answered.

In the game, there were also black holes as well but they don’t look like this. They were basically literally a black hole and you couldn’t get close to them because your ship would get torn apart if you were in the vicinity so all players literally just avoided them like the plague.

But here I am seeing an actual black hole in front of us… It had this certain dark beauty around it and I couldn’t help but feel awe watching it.

I’m not sure if this was just the feeling of L’appel du vide, or the call of the void, but I got that really strange urge of wanting to jump into that black void there.

Amber shuddered, “You know… I was thinking that there was no basis for them to make a Research Station here to research on making Psionics stronger but… I’m feeling a certain pull to it…”

Mara nodded, “It is expected. There were some theories saying that there’s some kind of connection between Psionics and the void with some going so far as to theorise that there might be eldritch entities beyond granting us these powers of ours. Perhaps humans had gaze into the abyss for long enough that they gazed back at us and some of their influence crossed over in the form of these powers. If you ask me though, I believe there might be just a bit of truth to that theory.”

I turned back to look at her, “Wait… You’re telling me there’s eldritch entities in this universe?”

She tilted her head, “Is it that odd? We already have various different unexplainable anomalies present in this universe and there’s the existence of those Psionic Chrysalis too who drops Psionic Crystals that bolster our powers when used. To this day, no one knows where these Psionic Chrysalis originate from either.”

Right… Speaking of which, both Mara and Amber had requested to be allowed to make use of some of those Crystal Shards for themselves which I saw no reason to deny.

I did ask to see how they used it and well… The way they used it to supposedly ‘enhance’ their abilities looked like an occult ritual no matter how you looked at it…

They had to arrange the crystals in a certain formation and then meditate in the middle of the formation which they would then start levitating up into the air before the crystals join them and then start revolving around them.

According to them, the effects of one session are pretty miniscule so a lot is needed to have a significant effect.

But that was only because they were using the shards instead of the intact crystals which the ring I was wearing was still spitting out every day.

They weren’t using those since we were planning to sell those first before the ones spawned after that would be kept for our own use.

Both of them seem to believe that using the crystals would give them a more significant boost than the shards did.

I’m actually kind of looking forward to seeing that.

“Should I hail the station and request docking permissions?” Mara asked, bringing my thoughts back to the present.

I nodded at her, “Do it.”

She turned back to her console and I assumed she was making the call to the station.

It only took a moment for her call to connect, “This is the Iridescence requesting to dock.”

“Iridescence, this is a private station. State your business here.”

“We have on board five researchers that we are escorting on behalf of the station owners.”

“Resea– Wait… What happened to their normal escorts?”

“We were hired as additional escorts but we were ambushed by pirates on the way here and their ship was damaged by the ambush. The captain then decided to split the group up to throw off our pursuers and we were chosen to complete the escort.”

Well… I suppose that’s close enough to the truth.

The other side paused for a while before the person spoke again, “I… Give me a moment… I need to contact my superior…”

The call ended and Mara turned back to me, “Should we get one of those researchers up here in case they ask for them?”

Good idea.

I tapped on my console to connect me to the PA system on my ship, “Lanos? Could you come up to the bridge?”

I lifted my finger from the console and not even a few seconds passed before the sound of footsteps thumping up the stairs could be heard.

“You called for me, Captain?!” The girl asked, her clothes looking quite dishevelled and her hair in a mess.

At least the dark circles under her eyes seemed to have cleared up slightly…

But for her to reach here so quickly… Either she was already nearby when I called her or she really sprinted here the moment she heard me call for her…

Before I could say anything however, she pulled open her top to expose her chest, “I am ready for you, Captain!”

I blinked at her before face palming, “I didn’t call you here for that, Lanos… Cover yourself…”

“E… Eh? I… Ah… My apologies…” She muttered, her hands slowly buttoning up her blouse.

I’ve got to say though… She does have big assets…

“So… What do you need from me, Captain?” She asked, straightening her clothes out to look more presentable.

I gestured towards the front, “We’re almost at the station and they might want to check that you’re on board before letting us dock with them. So I thought it would be a good idea for you to be here in case they ask.”

A look of disappointment appeared on her face, “We’re… There already? Could… Could we go umm… I mean… Maybe take a detour somewhere first?”

“No,” I answered her immediately, already knowing why she would ask for such a thing. “Don’t worry, I’ll prepare some food for you guys to take with you. Should last for a few weeks at least.”

She immediately perked up, “Really?! I’ll definitely make good use of it!”

Err… It’s just food so I don’t know how you want to ‘use’ it aside from just eating it but… Seeing that one of the things I would be giving were some containers of honey… I don’t want to know…

Right then, a call notification came and Mara answered it, though it was voice only so we couldn’t see the other party.

“Iridescence, this is the head of security of this Research Station. I have received your request to dock with this station but before we approve of it, I need to speak to one of the researchers.”

I turned to Lanos and nodded, prompting her to head over to the console at Mara’s side.

“This is Researcher Lanos, identification number two, two, two, eight, eight, five, five, five, eight.”

There was a pause before the head of security spoke again, “Greetings Miss Lanos. We were expecting five of you to join us. Are the others also there?”

“Yes, they are in their rooms right now.”

“Could I confirm with you that your initial escorts were indeed ambushed by pirates?”

“That is correct.”

“Understood. Iridescence, you are cleared for docking, we will be dispatching an escort to guide you here, power down your weapons and allow our security to board you. Failure to comply will result in deadly force.”

He didn’t even wait for us to respond before shutting off the call.

Seems like they’re really cautious here huh?
