Chapter 461: They Take Security Seriously
This is the best sale I’ve had ever since I came here, both because of how much Credits I just got and how easy it was to obtain the materials I just sold.
Three boxes of Psionic Crystals sold for eighteen million Credits and all the Psionic Shards that were weighed and sold for a total of three million Credits.
If I did this three times, I could almost afford to buy another one of our current ships.
Actually, with the current money that I have on hand, I could totally buy another one if I wanted to.
Damn… Getting this ship was truly a great investment, huh? It already paid for itself.
Anyway, now we were granted temporary access to the station as the lion guy needed to transfer us the Credits through the station’s terminal back in his office.
Also, by ‘we’ I meant Mara and myself.
They initially only allowed me to follow the lion guy but I made an excuse along the lines of Mara being in charge of the accounts so she would need to follow along.
Obviously, I wanted her along so that she could use her telepathy to read his thoughts and warn me in case he was planning anything.
Initially, Amber wanted to come along as well but I told her to watch the ship alongside the other girls in case we needed to make a quick getaway.
I do not think that they would turn on us and try to kill us but… It doesn’t hurt to be safe.
Speaking of which, those five researchers were also escorted to their rooms within the station so I guess that might be the last time we would see each other.
At least… I believe so…
“I suppose I haven’t exactly formally introduced myself, did I?” The lion guy muttered as we walked.
“You did say your name out loud earlier but formally, I guess not,” I answered.
He stopped and turned around before stretching out his… Err… Paw.
“I am Hasani Jawara, Head Researcher of this station and a resident of the Inner Colonies. Graduated top of my class and I have a Doctorate in Gravitational and Psionic Waves Studies.”
Err… Ok… Something tells me that he wanted to ‘introduce’ himself just to show off his credentials…
I reached out my own hand and grabbed his… Paw… Which felt quite weird but I guess it wasn’t really bad? He even has those beans that you would find on a cat’s paw.
“I’m Tera. Gold Ranked Mercenary,” I said simply, shaking his paw.
It’s not like I have much else to say anyway, right? What else was I supposed to say? That I came from another universe? Yeah, I didn’t think so.
He raised an eyebrow at me, “Gold ranked you say? That’s a surprise. I honestly thought that you might only be a Silver rank at best. But then again, it’s not like I’m familiar with Mercenaries anyway.”
He pulled back his hand and turned to Mara, “And you, Miss?”
Mara waved her hand at him, “I’m just a nobody, there’s no need for you to concern yourself with me.”
Hasani stared at her for a few moments before shrugging his shoulders and turning away, “Guess that’s to be expected from Outer Colonists.”
I’m pretty sure he meant that as a backhanded insult but when I looked at Mara, she simply smiled at me and shook her head.
I wondered why she was letting this slide until I realised that this was actually good for her if these people believed her to be an Outer Colonist instead of the noble that she was.
I nodded at her and we continued following behind Hasani, the lion guy already several steps ahead since he didn’t even bother to check if we were following him.
He led us through the corridors and we passed by a group of three armed guards on patrol, one of them wearing a power armour with quite an impressive autocannon mounted on his shoulder with a tower shield strapped to his left arm.
The three of them stopped and stared at Mara and me before moving to intercept us.

“You there, identify yourselves. Our scanners are not recognising you as a staff member of this station.”
Hasani waved at them, “They’re Mercs who just escorted our newest batch of researchers. They happen to have some stuff that we want on board so I’m taking them to the office to transfer the Credits to them.”
The guard did not miss a beat as he turned to the lion guy next, “Identify yourself.”
Wait… Isn’t he supposed to be the Head Researcher here? Surely the guards know him right?
Unexpectedly, Hasani did not seem surprised by the treatment and answered the guard easily, “Hasani Jawara. Identification number, zero, five, five, five, six, six, six, three, three.”
The guard then took out his personal terminal before projecting a screen that seemed to be scanning the lion guy.
He stayed still and let the guard do his thing, the screen showing a ‘Identity Match’ after a few seconds.
The guard seemed to be satisfied with that and nodded at him, “Very well then, carry on.”
They then left us and returned to their patrol, prompting the lion guy to continue walking as well as though nothing happened.
I caught up to him and asked, “Did they not recognise you or something?”
He shook his head, “We take security very seriously on this station in case of people sneaking on board and stealing our research. So even someone like me will be subjected to such a search if they suspect something amiss. That’s why don’t try anything.”
“What is it that you have that there would be a possibility of someone doing that?”
“If you do not know then it means you are not meant to know,” He answered immediately.
Wow… Alright then…
At least I could formulate some guesses on my own but it’s not like I care anyway.
We continued down the corridor and I had the chance to look around the station I had been to so far.
To be honest, this place looked like the military base that we had been to earlier, except this place clearly had a lot more security with the cameras and automated turrets that lined up the corridor.
They also seemed to be using some kind of air freshener since there was a soft musky and earthy scent which I wondered why they would use a scent like that.
Then I thought that maybe this was to imitate the smell of a planet since these people came from the Inner Colonies and the scent might make them feel more at ease.
We eventually arrived at a room with a plaque on the side that read ‘Head Researcher — Hasani Jawara’.
The lion guy went up to the door and tapped a card on the console below the door slid open.
After all the security we’ve seen so far… For the door to the Head Researcher’s room to only be locked by a simple keycard seemed to be disproportionate…
Or maybe it’s because of the fact that the rest of the station was already pretty secure that they could be a little more lax when it came to things like this?
Pushing those thoughts aside, we entered the room behind him and… Well… The room was big.
Like, actually unnecessarily big… Probably about half the size of my ship’s cargo hold big.
This was clearly just an office since there was a table in the centre of the room while shelves that were filled with data records lined the walls.
But aside from that, the only other furniture was a couch in front of the table and an office chair behind it which left the rest of the room completely empty.
What made it worse was the fact that the room was painted in white…
It took him a good ten seconds for him to walk over to his desk to sit down behind it before he gestured at us, “Please come over. I’ll do a transfer request and I’ll need you to confirm it before I can transfer the Credits to you. It might take a while since I have to wait for the higher ups to confirm my request before I can make it. Don’t worry though, they will approve of it without question.”
Well, that’s good to hear… It would be bad if we came all the way here only to be rejected.
We went over and sat on the couch, watching the lion guy activate the terminal on the desk to start typing on his holographic keyboard.
We waited, and waited, and waited and… Hmm?
Is it just me or the earthy smell is getting more and more thick?
Right as I was about to ask the lion guy about it, Mara suddenly grabbed me on the face to turn me towards her to kiss me on the lips.
I was so surprised that it took me a few moments to realise what she was doing before I pushed her away.
“What?”
Mara’s face was flushed and she leaned closer to me, “Tera… I feel so… Hot…”
Mara?! What are you doing?!!
