Chapter 531: Bodyguard Operation Planning
Deviminio’s ‘tour’ around the second ring will take place in a day’s time so we had that much time to prepare for it.
I’m still not sure if I would be bringing my power armour for this since it would be hard to sneak around in it but I’m currently leaning towards bringing it for the firepower and protection it offers.
For now, we had to plan for the mission to make sure we get the full reward possible for this.
We managed to get a more detailed map of the area and we’re now huddled in the ship’s bridge to look over the map.
“Seems like he’s planning to move around an area a street down from the main lift,” Lea pointed out.
“Probably if he sticks too close to the lift, it wouldn’t have any meaning. And by doing it away from it, he can deflect any argument about him doing it in a safezone,” Amber added.
“I still don’t understand what the point of this is, though…” I admitted.
Mara scoffed, “It’s simple really. This is just a psychological way of making him look like the better choice in the voters’ eyes since he was able to show that he had first hand experience in dealing with the situation. Then there’s also the indirect way of putting pressure on his opponents to try and do something similar or with more impact which would put them at more risk than him. And going by what he has been doing so far, I won’t be surprised if he’s aiming for that time to take out those opponents.”
Amber chuckled, “And it’s a good thing you already set the condition that we won’t do any assassinations for him. Otherwise, I believe he would then contact us to do just that the moment one of his opponents tries to do the same thing.”
“I’m not really expecting him to keep his word but… What are the chances that he would actually delete the records of us meeting with him?”
Mara scoffed, “Pretty high, unless he was a complete idiot. Though this is more from my understanding of how these people work and not because I read his mind because he’s still having that odd situation with his thoughts.”
Right, Mara said that the guy was only thinking what he said which was unnatural for people since normal people usually have their thoughts wander around even while talking about a certain topic.
So the fact that this was happening with this guy was definitely weird.
Ries turned to Mara, “So why do you think he will keep his word?”
“For one, he had intended to use that recording as a form of leverage against us so that we won’t betray him for this event. But once this event is over, it’s no longer leverage but a liability for him. It’s one thing for the video to appear when he’s dead and another to surface while he’s still around.”
Lea seemed to realise what Mara was getting at and continued for her, “I see… So if his opponents found the recording, they could smear him saying that he planned the entire thing including any attacks he suffered and his trust will plummet even if it was not factual.”
Mara nodded, “Most people don’t care what the actual truth is as long as there’s a good story. Even by the time he has proven his innocence, no one would care anymore.”
“Right… So it’s in his best interest to delete that video after that huh…”
“There’s also another reason why he should, in fact, delete those recordings,” Mara continued.
I raised an eyebrow at her, “Why?”
“To prevent any recordings of me from leaking out to my family… If he doesn’t do it, I might take things into my own hands. And one beautiful thing about this is if it’s obvious that a noble killed him, most people will try to keep away from it instead of trying to find out why.”
I’m guessing that’s because of the authority that nobles hold in this part of the galaxy…
Well, this works for us so I guess we’ll just put that aside for now.
Turning my attention back to the map, I crossed my arms while nodding at it, “So what’s our plan here? The only thing we know is the route his little tour will be taking.”
Amber leaned on the map console, “Well… We at least know that he has his own security team that will be stationed around the area as well and they will contact us at the first sign of any trouble. So I guess our priority would be thinking about where we should be positioning ourselves instead.”
I turned to our resident sniper since I believe she has the best intuition on where one should position for the best overwatch spots, “Lea? Any comments for this?”
She stared at the map in silence for a while before she started pointing to multiple buildings in the centre.
“Considering the fact that our client will be moving and not staying in one spot… These should be good points for myself and Ries to set up since it gives good vantage points over the entire route. For Mistress and the others… I would recommend moving along this route amongst these buildings while their group is moving.”
Several buildings on the map were lit up on the map in different colours and another line appeared to link those buildings together.
“We might need to do a bunny hop strategy to keep up with the group,” I suggested, tapping on the map to change the colour of the buildings. “Amber, Mara and I will each occupy a different section and when the group moves past our section, the last person will move to the next section to wait for the group to catch up.”

This way, there would always be coverage for our client instead of having a lag time where there isn’t any coverage from us while we’re moving to the next building.
Amber gave me a look, “Are you sure you’ll be alright on your own, Tera? At least have one of us with you?”
I rolled my eyes, “Come on Amber… This wouldn’t be my first time in a fight, assuming a fight even breaks out. I’ll be fine. If I need help, I’ll call for you and you’ll come immediately right?”
“Ehehehe~ Of course I would!”
“Then there’s no issue. On that topic though… I want to ask how we’re dealing with the threats and where we expect them to be?”
Ries grinned, “That’s easy Boss! We can just shoot them! And I’ll have a few more drones fitted with scanners so we’ll spot any threat on the roofs of the building or out in the open at least. Then I’ll have at least two drones following above their group as air cover in case anyone does show up there.”
I nodded, “Sounds good. I believe we should be working closely with his security team on this so we can also tap into their comms to make decisions on that day as well. Anyway… Do we have an idea of what kind of enemies we might be facing?”
Amber tapped on her chin, “If this guy didn’t broadcast this tour of his around the station… Then we might only meet limited resistance since the enemies would not have time to prepare. So most likely just thugs who are already there and hired to disrupt the tour. But…”
She started scrolling through her personal terminal and frowned before projecting the screen up in the air.
On the screen was an article reporting that our dear client was planning to make a personal visit to the second ring to bring order to the chaos. It even stated that he had already done some groundwork and that by tomorrow, the issue would be solved.
I grimaced, “At least it didn’t say where he’s going to visit, right?”
Amber shook her head, “Doesn’t seem like it… But that means his opponents would most likely be scrounging up whoever they can get today to move them down to the second ring in preparation for this. The only good thing is that they would most likely be spread out around the area so we might only face them in waves instead of being worried about ambushes.”
Ries gave me a thumbs up, “If my drones catch them coming, we can also set up ambushes for them instead, Boss! But they might have quite substantial firepower if they had a day to prepare though…”
I raised an eyebrow, “I’m also assuming they might also bring power armour of their own then?”
She nodded.
I let out a sigh, “In that case, I guess we’ll also bring our own.”
Hopefully any other Mercs who are also there wouldn’t take that chance to disturb us…
“Ehehehe~ I’ll help you outfit it later, Boss! Just leave it to me!”
Letting Ries make that power armour was already proving to be one of the best decisions I’ve made here.
Well, I guess we should prepare for this operation tomorrow then~
Hopefully nothing big happens…
